Radestock brought up a few points, wanting to know what the advantage would be over current websites.
Also, "Some content might fall through the gaps yes, but that would happen with a wiki type thing too." is a very good point.
However wiki's allow contribution by anyone and with the large community that we have developing I think it can work very well.
With the wiki, anyone would be able to add files they come across, add information about them and post reviews on the add-ons.
Requests would also be very easy to do as well.
This idea is not meant as competition for the current websites, i'm just after 1 central location to find the best add-ons and feel this would be the best way to do this.

"You'd just have a wiki full off links that didn't work because sortitoutsi was down."
How about a page where people can post if they find dead links etc, then other people can upload the file somewhere temporarily until the original source is available again.
"The skinning guide - you can't find one because there hasn't been a reasonable one written. If one exsisted then no doubt the big sites would have it though."
Why wait for one person to do all the work and then upload a guide to the sites. With the wiki we can just create the page and everyone can add in what they know.

| Robbie, any help or work on this would be greatly appreciated.
So far I have considered registering at http://www.openserving.com/ (Wikia's new free hosting option) or at Wikia itself.
Smiggs' idea of using the existing fmwiki is another possibility.
Ideally we could get MediaWiki hosted somewhere with a domain name etc but I don't have the money for that at the moment and while the wiki is getting started I'm not sure it would be neccersary.
Perhaps just a domain name pointing to a Wikia hosted wiki would be best.
Suggestions for names would be great too... I haevn't registered anything yet as I didn't have a name in mind.
There are the obvious things like FM-Addons (FM-Add-ons?) or FM-Downloads etc etc...

Pete,
Just as an idea have you thought of approaching SI with this idea and seeing if they would help with hosting etc? Then it could be a subsection of the most popular FM site of all, the official one.
At the end of the day the more content they have written about FM 2007, the larger the community will grow and therefore allow them to reach a larger audience.
FMWIki.sigames.com would be idea.

| If you did that, then you wouldn't be allowed to post or link to any graphics as SI would run the risk of being sued.

what I would ideally like to see would be some sort of database of GOOD quality add-ons, hosted by SI and downloadable from INSIDE the game (infact all games should do this!) -this would get so many more people involved (or just using) the add-ons.
but there are lots of legal problems even with hosting it on their site. I will send them an email sometime suggesting it but I expect michael will be right.

| Michael's right - it's to do with Sponsorship and licensing. As SI can't include premiership logos in the game (as EA have an exclusivity deal) SI cannot host downloads for the content they don't have a license for. That's partly why SI mods are not allowed to post links to download places and it's also why you can't download graphics from this site.

Having just had a look at www.fmwiki.com (which I didn't even know existed until a moment ago) I don't think we need another one. Instead, why don't we support the one that's already in existence?
We could all agree to upload our work - e.g. I could offer to upload my Premiership-Conference MegaPacks and my SPL one - others could upload their own megapacks, including kit packs and logo packs.
The stadium background boys could upload their work and stuff.
But perhaps we should have a bit of pre-vetting to ensure that no sh*t gets uploaded?
I think it's much more prudent to support the one already in existence for these reasons:
- it's much more cost-effective
- the one in existence has a good URL (fmwiki.com)
- the site appears to be run by Caleyjag who is a legend and set up Sortitoutsi.net
- as the site says, it's about collaboration, not competition. We want to make one place to download everything - let's use that?
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

To be honest I currently have another FM website in development with free hosting (and I am pretty sure it's enough bandwidth), but I would be more than happy to make a different site with other people on this forum. The biggest problem I find is that there is no index of files that you can download for Football Manager. Susie has some in the downloads database, but most are scattered around the forum and difficult to find for new users. FM Downloads is ok, but I don't have a clue what half the files do on there. What I was planning on making is a place with a decent downloads database, with good descriptions of each file and make sure they have been verified as being good and that they work by the owners. We could integrate this into a wiki, and I think that is the best idea we have so far, other than to help contribute to the current FM Wiki.

| That is what Caleyjag is trying to do with Community Downloads Project isn't it?
