Much as I can appreciate what your saying regarding the "Download Servers" sentiment, I do feel that with sites like Sort It Out Si often experiencing heavy load times making it quite often unbearable to sit and wait for I feel a wiki guide which is less graphics intensive, easier to find what you want wouldnt be a bad idea.
I have searched google to try and find a guide on editing FM07 skins, as well as the forums and it hasn't thrown up anything related to the topic, somewhere i can go to find out all the information i need, or at least a resource which points me in the direction of sites that have what I am looking for, i feel would be extremely usefull to the community.
Regarding the comments about more people would be asking for it, i disagree, i think most people are too lazy to reply in agreement with something along these lines.

I quite like the idea personally. I'd be in favour, especially with Sortitoutsi.net being such a waste of space at the moment and no other sites really matching what Susie used to be like.
I'm so cancelling my subscription to Susie. What do I get for my money? This, all the goddamn time. So yeah, I'd deffo be in favour of this project.

| How would a wiki make it any different though? You'd just have a wiki full off links that didn't work because sortitoutsi was down. It's not loading the graphics that makes it slow sometimes, it's their bandwidth being used for downloads. Having a wiki full of direct links to things is only going to make things worse.
Same would happen if links went to other sites (who I'm sure don't have as much capacity as sortitoutsi) bandwidth would get eaten and links would die.
The skinning guide - you can't find one because there hasn't been a reasonable one written. If one exsisted then no doubt the big sites would have it though. Quote:

| Don't think you've thought this through. Sortitoutsi.net provides a resource for free (you can contribute if you think it's worthwhile) - by fans for fans. Bandwidth costs a bomb, the new game hasn't been out that long and it's the festive period when people are off work/school. You can't expect a sleek seamless experience like a big corporation webiste. You cancelling your subscription (and if others follow your lead) isn't going to help a lot is it? Where do you think a wiki would link to anyway... sites like sortitoutsi.

I am a professional web developer and I could get this up and running if you like, as long as I knew enough people would contribute to it.

| I see your point, but as Massum said, I pay money so I do expect a service (not even a GOOD one, just A service would be nice!).
I've been a member of Susie for a while, in fact it was me who mooted the idea of a donations section and kicked things off with a $60 donation. Since then I've subscribed, but the sites been dogged with problems for months now. It has periods when everything seems to be fine, but then it has periods like this morning where I can only get intermittent access to the site. When you pay money for a subscription you expect to get something in return.
Tbh, I'm not bothered about Susie anymore, I've given more than enough time/money to the site. The pity is, there are no other sites even close to matching what Susie used to be like in my opinion.

This thread isn't about susie but in all fairness it's a site that takes a pounding because it's popular and no one else comes close. I'm sure the people involved in running it would love to have it working better but it's too expensive. If they had the money - they would make it better. For a heavily used, popular, under funded fansite you get a service of a level i'd expect (in all honesty it's been reasonable for me the last few months).
Back to the wiki idea:
1. Despite all those in favour, No one has convinced me it would improve on what we have now
2. It would still link to fan sites like susie with bandwidth issues, dead links etc (making things worse potentially) so what good is that?

To be fair I actually think this thread has gone off topic somewhat, what people need to remember here is if there is a good response to the idea (I for one would be willing to contribute to the making of the Wiki) then it should go ahead.
This isn't a how do we convince Radestock that it's a good idea, it is simply a way of judging overall opinion rather than trying to change on persons.
Robbie , if at any point you decide to implement it I for one would be part of the team to help put it together.

Hi everyone, its good to see there has been some good discussion while I've been away over New Years. I'll address the questions and concerns that some people have had so far.
Permission should always be received from a website before direct linking to a file.
Permission should always be received from the creator before the posting the files in the first place.
This goes for anything on the internet and I see it as very important.
Frankie talked about one specific site and how the best graphics makers have joined including exclusive files.
While he seems to consider this a good thing, this is one of the main problems I hope to address with the Wiki.
Having multiple sites is always good as backups etc but it just complicates things when you're looking for add-ons.
Regarding exclusivity, I personally don't like the idea... it seems odd to be designing things to share with the community but to then limit the availability. However as mentioned before, files won't be posted without the creators permission.
