I have edited the original 7.0.0 database and then saved it - how do i load it in the game as it keeps loading the original database?!!

When you begin a new game, the initial screen will ask you to choose a database to use. You'll be able to choose which one from the dropdown list.

mines doesnt ask me that when i load the game?? Afer i select "new game" it just goes straight through and loads the default database

As soon as you select new game from the main menu, you see a box that points out which database will be used (7.00). The dropdown choices are at the top of this box.

I'm assuming you edited the 7.00 database and then did "save as" instead of "save."
"save as" would have asked you to name your new database, which will then show in the dropdown I mentioned at the top.
