Default Creating new young players - stats.

In the default database there are plenty of young players who have exceptional stats in one or two areas, yet are nowhere near reaching their potential (e.g. Theo Walcott's pace) If I try the same. For example if I want to create a 17 year old at Tottenham with exceptional first touch and technique, a potential ability of 180 and a current ability of something around 120 - the player starts the game with 12 or 13 for both stats! Whereas Walcott whose pace stats, potential and current abilities are comparable in the editor - starts with 20 pace as usual!! Why?????????? What is it that I'm missing that always prevents my newly created players from starting with the stats I give them? I feel there is a lot more going on in the engine, to do with balancing players, than is apparant from the editor and I have always felt, since the very earliest versions of CM that there must be either hard-coded values or fields which even now are still hidden being used as a workaround to set exceptions for well known players. I'd love to know what everyone else thinks/knows/thinks they know about this.

You need to take into account that a low current ability will always give low stats no matter how high you put them, and vice versa.

Ok you got me thinking, so I created a player in the editor identical to Walcott. And when I started the game there stats where exactly the same.

So to answer your question there is no conspiracy against us . You need to have a play and find out what works and what doesnt!

If your trying to create a good player; use a exsisting player (Henry/Walcott) as a template and then change the major stats to suit. CA and PA play a really important role, remember this!

Thanks for the comments. I do understand all of this and have tried the same thing as Steve before - I guess what I'd really like to know is how to predict what's going to happen to a player's stats and have a better understanding of the formulae involved... The other thing that worries me a lot in CM editing is how the player's stats affect the way he plays... e.g. I've found that if I want to create an attacking winger who always runs at the opposition, an Aaron Lennon say, I tend not to end up with a player who has the personality I'm after unless I balance out his good stats with weak stats in other areas such as strength, teamwork, tacking, passing and shooting. Creating new players from scratch with the editor is always what has interested me most in CM/FM and I've been through many disappointments in the past, creating whole teams of players and finding them turn out completely differently from my expectations. I've learned a lot of the tricks of getting what you want but what I'm interested in now is the WHY, more than the HOW. I wish there was a resource on how the match engine works.
