Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Zebrette - new promising tactic

Zebrette Tactic

I recently developed this tactic which I feel I must share with you! It would seem that I have stumbled across one of the most consistent tactics I have ever used in FM 07. I used this system for one whole season in Serie A with Udinese (predicted to finish 9th) and finished 2nd with the title race going down to the last day of the season - we lost out to Inter by 1 point!

The System

I developed the system with a cautious approach in mind – however with Udinese we turned out to be the most prolific team in the league scoring 81 goals and Gyan scored 40 of them!

The formation utilises a back four whose priority is defensive stability – however the full backs will join in and provide some assists through crossing from deep

The midfield four consists of two holding midfielders (capello style) – by using these two players the wide men can offer a lot going forward. These wide players are not necessarily wingers but can be attacking midfield types e.g. D’Agostino / Gerrard / any AMRC or AMLC. The right sided MC is slightly more creative whereas the left sided MC is the pure destroyer.

As for the strikers I used Iaquinta (the right-sided SC) as a semi target man (placed in target man box but use target man is not ticked) and the left sided forward is more of a ‘number 10’ style player such as Rooney with RWB and TTB often. However I did use Gyan in this role who was slightly more like a speedster and he was amazing – 8.07 AV Rating and 40 goals

The tempo is slightly less than default and width is slightly more than default. Time wasting and defensive line are both less than default.

The Variants

The normal style system is supplemented with two variants:

SUS – shut up shop for closing out a game – don’t use too early! – forward runs reduced throughout the team – slower tempo – and more time wasting

ATTACK – used against more stubborn opponents – generally just includes more forward runs throughout the team

Generally I did not have to resort to these variants but they were helpful in a few games. As a rule I would start every game with the normal version.

Conclusion

it should be noted that I have only tested this formation with Udinese and I have only completed one season – however I am still optimistic about its success purely because of the consistency it brought – I didn’t suffer a slump at all and went on long winning streaks – however I did struggle vs Inter and AC but in fairness there teams were a lot stronger than mine!

Hi, sounds good,

I am also currently playing with Roma in
Serie A (just finished 2nd season) and i am struggling a little with consistency e.g. losing and drawing at home against the likes of Catania, Bologna and such.....

However i just squandered 29m£ on Van Der Vaart and the only striker with decent heading is Okaka, who is relatively unproven.

As it is now, the formation COULD look like this
GK - Doni
DR - Vanden Borre
DC - Sergio Ramos
DC - Chivu
DL - Zonnenveld
ML - Marcelo
MC - Van Der Vaart (Lucas), (Totti)
MC - De Rossi
MR - Xabi Prieto (Nani)
FC - Carlos Vela
FC - Sergio Agüero

reserves:
GK - Amelia
DR - Manuel Ruz
DL - Max Tonetto
DC - Yobo
AMRLC - Nani
DMC - Sivok
ST - Okaka

any suggestions on how i could get this tactic to work?

Amelia to replace Doni as first choice keeper for a start, and Ruz to replace AVB.
