It's quite easy to determine how good other players are by getting scout reports - but what about your own players? 99% of the time, all I get is "... is a decent member of the squad". It varies a little bit - for crap players, you'll get "<Ass. Man> believes ... will be nothing more than a fringe player for the club", to "<Ass. Man> believes ... has all the attributes required to be a very good player indeed". However, I find that often it fails to distinguish between the average players and the better ones, so I rarely take these comments seriously.
My question is, if I'm looking through my youth players and the only advice I get from my Assistant Manager is "... is a decent member of the squad", how do I know if they're actually going to be decent, apart from temporarily taking control of another club and scouting them?
The only way I have found is to release all of the new youth players that are given to me at the start of the year, scout them all, and re-sign any good ones.
Hopefully it will be fixed for fm08. Its not unreasonable to expect to have more detailed, accurate information on your own players than on someone elses.
