Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Brazil Futebol

I'm trying to create a brazillian style football and need your advice to make it work.

Firstly i'm going to try and implement this tactic with porto as they have players with attributes similar to those needed for this tactic to work.

My understanding ov the brazil football is that they blay a 4-2-2-2 formation having effectively two boxes through the centre and relying on their wingbacks to offer width in attack aswell as defensive duties down the flanks, so i'm assuming they need good pace, stamina, acceleration, dribbling and crossing attributes.
They play with two defensive midfielders who tend to stay infront of the CB's. However i have also read that on DM is the defensive minded player and the other DM will help in attack, i'm not sure if this is true but it sounds pretty logical.
The other two MC's act as the creative attacking force from midfield such as kaka, ronaldinho, rivaldo ect. In the old brazil 4-2-2-2 these players were positioned in the MC slots but had farrows to the attacking midfield slots. In the modern 4-2-2-2 they have sarrows to the ML/R positions. Basically i'm going to try both and see which is more effective with the players i have.

For me brazil play a relatively attacking slow tempo, short passing build-up game in order to create quality chances yet they also play on the counter.

Mentality: Normal/attacking
Passing: short
Tempo: slow
Width: Wide due to the WB's
Closing down: Im going to experiment and try often
Time waisting: Often - allows us to dominate possesion and try to draw out the opposition to create space to exploit
Defensive line: Normal/High - Not too high but i like the current idea of it mirroring the mentality.

I'd like to get a few opinions off people before i begin making the tactic

That is pretty accurate so far what you've got. It is a 4-2-2-2, back four, 2 DM's (volantes), 2 AMC's and 2 ST's.

Your team instructions are ok, but make sure there is a high amount of team creative freedom because this is what sets them apart from other teams. Maybe for your 2 AMC's give them free roles so that they can roam around anywhere behind the front pair.

Obviously the key here is width and fullbacks. I'd probably use full width in order to get the fullbacks going forward to support attacks. Make sure they hsve things like high stamina/dribbling/pace/crossing/positioning. As for the DM's their job is to mainly defend so you want them both to protect the CB's as they will be looking to cover the flanks for the fullbacks.

So yea let us know how you get on

I tinkered with your tactic a little bit. Try this and tell me if it works any better:

4-4-2 Magic Square

I've now dropped the AMC's to the MC positions with farrows going to the AMC positions, this seems to be helping me defensively.

Definitely free roles for the AMC's. This kind of thing would work very well with Milan if you are looking for a team to try it out with - perhaps buy a new AMC who's got a bit more than Seedorf (Van der Vaart perhaps?) and ideally someone better than Oliveira (got Ronaldo I guess).

Attacking full backs are obvious to give width. The focus really is the AMC's. Kaka and Ronaldihno are the perfect guys for this. They need to be creative skllful, and be able to put it a good cross and also be great with through balls.

As a variation perhaps onsider barrows on the CM's, nothing on the AMC's and sarrows on the forwards to give the creative AMC's guys even more freedom. They could end up scoring a tonne of goals for you. I might try it myself.

Free Roles generally only work for players who have high free role ratings (which is a hidden attribute) so it's pretty much a trial-error.

Is free role really a hidden attribute? I thought it was given on the player profile screen...no?

Realmadrid_2007 mate,

Sir Bobby Moore has created a beautiful Brazilian-style tactic for FM06.

Here is the link to his superb work:

Hope it helps in your development.
