It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Have you read Play FM? That relies more on situation based sets rather than "home" and "away" tactics which have a habit of being unreliable.

There's also some downloads from TT&F here if you want to have a look at how other people have set up RoO and whether you think those might help you. Bear in mind they were made for '07 and that the more attacking tactics don't seem to work too well because of the closing down "issue".

We're working on it.

Play FM is pretty simple to follow, I think.

Basically you set up the five or so tactics as outlined in the thread and move between them as needed.

But, each to their own I guess. Play FM is by no means the only way to play the game. Have you seen Cleon's 07 Sheffield United Project and some of the threads Rashidi has opened recently?

RoO is awful, sorry to say

Giving GK mentality 10 just to set 1-1 with rest of the team is bad, in my point of view. You´re saying that 50% of times GK will be worried about defensive duties and rest 50% he´ll be thinking about attack job.

Rest applies for others players. Defenders never should be matched with individual instruction like 11/12. If you want your central defenders play up front the pitch just increase defensive line (DL) to team slider 14 or 15. If your want your right/left back go up to join attack, just give them FRW often and increase a little bit mentality.

Each section, as I said, should respect wisely their duties. By other words, defenders will do better at 4-6 mentality, DMC between 8-10, MC 10-12, AMC - 12-15 and strikers never less than 15.

Discover by yourself. I learnt for what I´ve been reading here but moslty playing the game.

That´s why I didn´t copy tactics/formations at least at full extend and try to test things while playing. If you watch full extended (I play all games this way) you can observe players movements and conclude about choices you made: team instructions, individual instructions, formation, training, team talks etc.

Try to change mentality silders based on 2/3 theorems and look what fits better your team.

I can think of one Wycombe Wanderers fan who might disagree with you there. Hey, each to their own. Personally, I moved away from RoO/T a while ago, but I've seen some awesome tactics that use it. Another debate for another time.

Let's go right back to basics then. How are your team conceding goals. All over the place, or is there a pattern? What is the possession like in the "action zones" page? What are your possession and pass completion stats like?

A poor defence can only be rectified if you know how it's poor. Then you can work on the why.
