I have been playing this game since 1998 and I can say by far this is the most frustrating version ever...
I have used other peoples tactics and made my own but I just get the same results...
If I play with Man U, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal etc this game is a doddle with almost any tactic getting you the Silverwear...
However go down a few leagues and its a different matter, i am currently playing with Leeds and I have a great squad for the Coca Cola Championship which is were I currently am but I just can't win a game...
Lately if I am 2 or 3 up by half time the AI peg me back to a draw by the end of the game or end up winning by 2 more goals...no matter what I do its always the same...I am 19th in the league and have the likes of..Piatti, Saivet, Stancu, Hobbs plus some loans from Real Madrid...its quite frankly unrealistic and an insult to the game imo..
Play high u get beat by balls over the top, flood the midfield and your players lose possesion, play deep and u still get done by balls over the top...play tight and you end up getting beaten by 6 deflections of your defenders and then...oh look...its landed to the opposition attacker who scores!
Of course my favourite is the 40 shots on goal 0 goals then to get beaten by a deflected free kick...thats quite special..
I know I'm not the only one having these problems and I simpathise greatly...this is probably why the are so many tactics/discussions for the big clubs and hardly any for the lower leagues cos nobody can be bothered as when they have a go they just get beat after beat...
I challenge someone to give me a tactic for Coca Cola Championship for Leeds which will stop all these problems from happening as nothing works and I'm getting sick of it now..

tbh i think your wrong..I have started a game as unemployed, with a reputation as "sunday league footballer" and have gone strengh from strengh with BERGHAUSEN, looks like i might even have a chance with the UEFA cup this year.Maybe you should try the same..When have you ever heard of a non name manager like yourself manageing the likes of leeds?? NEVER..Makes me laugh when they say they are a top team and they are doin poorly in the league..When would leeds football club get an unproven football manager like urself???? START AS UNEMPLOYED..then u will reap the the rewards!!!!!

I know where you are coming from mate,however i am playing a game with kettering and going well in l2. I find team talks are the key at half time DONT EVER say PLEASED cause i allways lose or draw from being 2 maybe 3 up.

Another whine thread and even witth a request for a tactic at the end.
You will get cought with balls over the top even if you play a deep defensive line. Defensive line only comes into effect when you dont have the ball remember? This means when you have the ball your defense will push up to about the half way line right? If you lose the ball and have a deep defensive line your defenders wont start defending until they get to that line. If you lose the ball, and with the oppositions first pass they play a ball over the top, your defensive line doesnt matter as your defenders will have pushed up to the halfway line and get cought out anyway.
If you study the match engine more and read some more threads and dont download tactics you might get a breakthrough. I find it quite easy to create a tactic that performs as expected, to create a tactic that will overachieve is quite hard, but not impossible and as i said if you spend enough time studying the game then you will figure it out eventually.
glory utd - so are you saying that if you don't want to get caught with balls over the top you should play with a normal-high line so when you lose the ball, your defenders will automatically hunt the ball down? Am i right?
What really frustrates me is when you start the game when your players get injured they're only out for a week or a day at most.
Now 6 years later, I'm cruising the Premiership, so when one of my key players gets injured, they're out for 3 weeks, 3 months or a month.. Really annoys me.

No, I never gave a solution, I just gave reason. I think that, as in real life, you get cought with balls over the top anyway, thats part of football. There is no stopping it unless you go to drastic measures.

Its common knowledge / widely agreed upon. All you have to do is watch a match and you will see
My point is that no matter what the defensive line is set to, your defenders will still push up when you have the ball, thus making them vulnerable to a counter attack over the top. Setting the defensive line deeper is not the way to coutner that particular problem. Though if you have a high defensive line then you are vulnerable not only from counter attacks but also from slow build up play.
