You only have to look through this forum to find people who are having similiar problems to myself...

Lately if I am 2 or 3 up by half time the AI peg me back to a draw by the end of the game or end up winning by 2 more goals...no matter what I do its always the same...I am 19th in the league and have the likes of..Piatti, Saivet, Stancu, Hobbs plus some loans from Real Madrid...its quite frankly unrealistic and an insult to the game imo..

Play high u get beat by balls over the top, flood the midfield and your players lose possesion, play deep and u still get done by balls over the top...play tight and you end up getting beaten by 6 deflections of your defenders and then...oh look...its landed to the opposition attacker who scores!

Of course my favourite is the 40 shots on goal 0 goals then to get beaten by a deflected free kick...thats quite special..

I know I'm not the only one having these problems and I simpathise greatly...this is probably why the are so many tactics/discussions for the big clubs and hardly any for the lower leagues cos nobody can be bothered as when they have a go they just get beat after beat...

I challenge someone to give me a tactic for Coca Cola Championship for Leeds which will stop all these problems from happening as nothing works and I'm getting sick of it now..

I have seen this a few times on here about the defensive line setting only coming into effect when the in possession.

The FM2008 manual states:-

Defensive Line
The defensive line slider positions your deepest line of defence on the pitch.

It affects the positon the players take up both with and without possession.

The slider is set from Deep to Push Up, and the further right the bar is set, the closer to the halfway line the defensive unit will advance when in possesion.

If your team is using a defensive mentality, a defensive setting on this slider will ensure they stay deep when the rest of your team attacks.

If your team uses an attacking philosophy, the effect, the effect of this slider is lessened and players will advance - although a deeper line will see them err on the side of caution a little more.

When your team is not is possesion the same applies, but in terms of nullifying the opposition.

As soon as your team loses possesion, the defensive line will adopt the approach you have told them to and either drop deeper or push up.

You may want to take the qualities of the oppositio's attackers into consideration before each match before deciding on your defensive line approach, as quicker players can get in behind an advanced line, and depper lines can be exposed by direct play and a big target man up front.

A far as I am concerned this is the specification for the slider to be judged on. If this is not working then either the slider implementation is wrong or the slider specification is wrong.

In either case SI should either fix the implementation or release a manual ammendment.

However, as far as I am concerned this is what happens, i.e the specification in the manual, matches the implementation in the game.

If you watch two matches, one where the DL is 1 and the other where it is 20, you will see that on both settings the team should push up to about the half way line. The study has been done before tbf. It will alter where they push up to but only slightly.

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.
