Balompie is the literal Spanish word for football as opposed to the anglicized version, futbol. Betis is one of only a handful of Spanish clubs that use this version in their name. As with other Spanish clubs Real was added after receiving patronage from the King of Spain Don Alfonso XIII in 1914. In 1912, Manuel Ramos Asensio, one of the club's founding members, returned from a business trip to Glasgow with a set of green and black striped shirts, donated by Celtic F.C, and proposed Betis take up the colours. The green and black strip was subsequently deemed unlucky after a losing run and was replaced by a green and white version - the Andalucian national colours. During the Second Spanish Republic the club was once again called Betis Balompie, reverting to its current name after the Spanish Civil War.
They have won La Liga on one occasion in 1935 under the guidance of Patrick O'Connell, and won their first Copa del Rey in 1977. Real Betis came very close to winning their second Copa del Rey in 1997 when they were pipped by FC Barcelona. Betis finally won their second in 2005, in the final against CA Osasuna at Vicente Calderón Stadium on June 11. The club came close to folding in the summer of 1992 when they were saved by vice chairman Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, current chairman.
Betis celebrated their centenary year in 2007, during the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 league campaigns. In celebration of their centenary year they played A.C. Milan on 09 August, 2007. Real Betis won the game 1-0 when new signing Mark González scored from the penalty spot early into the second half. On 15 August Betis competed in the Ramón de Carranza Trophy, playing against Real Madrid in the semi-final, winning the game 1-0 with an injury time free-kick scored by Juan Pablo Caffa. Betis won the Ramón de Carranza Trophy on 16 August against Real Zaragoza. The match ended 1-1, with a goal from David Rivas for Betis, before winning the game 4-3 on penalties, with Antonio Doblas decisively saving a Ricardo Oliveira penalty. The summer brought with it a complete change to the Betis squad, with eight arrivals that included Mark González, Ricardo, and Mariano Pavone, and fourteen sales.
Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera is a football stadium in Sevilla, Spain. The stadium is the home ground of Real Betis. It was previously called Estadio Benito VillamarÃ*n before the new owner of the club, Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, decided to build a new stadium over the old one.

Analysis
The first to note about Real Betis is the shear size of the squad. There are too many squad players who are eating up your wage budget which can have an effect on your transfer budget. There are some real stars in this team (Edu, Ricardo, Rafael Sobis and Odonkor) who need to be at successful clubs in order to achieve their full potential. Rafael Sobis when i have played as Betis is a born goal scorer and will score for fun, if he has a good season as he did for me, European spots should be easily achieveable as Edu loves to supply him with the ball whilst also getting a few in for himself. The main problem with Real Betis however is the defence and it needs strengthaning greatly.
Goalkeeper - Ricardo is a new asset to the team and has vast experience in European football. In my game he was a strong personality for the team and a good player to base your defence round. His back (Doblas) is half decent, not really up to the ambitious standrds that this football club has. So a replacement after 1-2 seasons is a must.
Defence - The weakest part of the team. There are some average players in the defence such as Juanito and David Rivas but Betis seem to always buy the players that 'could never make it' at a big club. If there are any serious injury problems, you will leak goals like water through a sieve. I suggest bringing in new full backs and a strong, commanding centre half to cover for Juanito and with a small budget this in itself is a great challenge.
Midfield - The further up the pitch you go in terms of positions, the stronger this team gets. The midfield areas of this Betis team are of strong first team choices such as Odonkor, Vogel, Babic, Gonzalez, Jose Mari etc with good decent back ups with Rivera, Xisco etc. So there is strength in depth. However, your back up players are ones who (like the defence) arent good enough for the bigger teams and for some of them, have well past their peak and are verging on going down the divisions to play their football. So maybe one or two need to be sold.
Strikers - The strongest part of this Betis team. Rafael Sobis is a monster, as any true Brazilian is. He can score for fun. Whatever you do, dont sell him! He is your key to success, build your team around if possible. Edu is also another top striker on the game, he has been very good in previous FM's and this one is no execption although he doestn score as much as he once did. He is now more of a AMC player or a free role striker who can feed Sobis the balls he needs. This is mainly to do with his age as he is 30 years old and doesnt have the pace he once had. Even though the strike force of this team is the best area of the team, if you were to get a major injury to Sobis then there is no-one who can replace him within the team, so a back up is needed. Someone like Delgado (the Argentine) who costs around £3.4M and you can afford this is you sell a couple of uneeded players and adjust your transfer budget.
There is my basic analysis of Real Betis, a team with potential but with the desperate need of some quality players. There is a load of potential with this Betis team and over 3-5 seasons it is easy to get them to the top. And what a celebration of the centenary year it would be to win La Liga do you think??? or even qualifying for Europe! With not much money and a chairman who demands success, Real Betis is a challenging but very exciting and fulfilling challenge for any Football Manager.
start loaning from arsenal always helps you know song, diarra, walcott, flamini ...
your defence needs some strong reinforcement immediatly go for ignashevish from cska for free, loan abenzoar from lyon young but better than your players, juhasz from anderlecht is good and cheap
