Default GUSK

Bored of my Belgian save, I went to see Frank and he gave me a club in Sweden. GUSK (Gamla Upsala SK) of Division 2 Norra Svealand to be precise. I chose to run the game with Sweden, Norway and Finland as active leagues.

2005 Season - Div 2 Norra Svealand

Board expectation was to battle bravely against relegation, but bookies felt we were promotion certainties. Looking at the squad, the board had the more realistic idea of how the season would pan out.

We started the season without a win in the first 8 matches. Hitting some good form turned the season round and we sat in a promotion play-off place with just three games to go. Unfortunately we were thoroughly spanked in all three games and dropped down the table like a stone to finish 8th.

Brought in 4 players for a total of £1k.
Offloaded 1 for £1k.

Crashed out of the Svenska Cupen in the 1st Round.

Despite breaking even in terms of transfer spending and paying out very little in wages the club is in financial meltdown. Total loss for the season being £150k.

Highest attendance was 626, lowest was just 94. The average of just 215 goes someway to explaining the huge financial losses.

2006 Season - Div 2 Ostra Svealand (that's right we've changed regional divisions)

Board expectation = safe mid table position
Fan expectation = safe mid table position

Made the second round of the cup this season, before getting dumped. Cups Suck Arse (except for the fact that we got a home tie and a good attendance).

In – None (due to the clubs financial situation the board vetoed all transfers - even frees)
Out – 2 for £2k

Finished season as champions, tying the title up on the last day.

That's the good, now comes the bad and ugly.

The club is now £300k in debt (£200k loss for the season  ) despite not being over the wage budget and having spent nothing on transfers.

Highest attendances = 1,506 (2nd round of the cup), 322 (league). Lowest attendance = 74. Average attendance = 344 (up by just over 100 on last season).

2007 Season - Div 1 Sodraettan

Board Expectation - Stay clear of relegation
Fans Expectation - Brave fight relegation
In – 1 for £0
Out – 3 for £0

Won the title on goal difference despite defeat on the last day of the season.

High attendance was 2,114 (cup), but just 419 in the league. Lowest attendance was 193, while the average came in at 458 fans per game.

This was our best season yet financially. Only lost £40k, leaving balance at £340k overdrawn

2008 Season - Supperettan

Board Expectation - Fight bravely against relegation
Fans Expectation - Fight bravely against relegation
In – 6 for £0
Out – 9 for £0

Finished 10th in League.
Reached Svenska Cup Quarter Finals (lost 3-2 to eventual winners) beating a team challenging for the League title and then the runaway winners of my division on the way. Financially speaking the cup run probably saved the club.

Inconsistency and an injury hit small squad were the biggest barriers to success. The injuries killed off any chance of a play-off push and we finished in mid-table. The board were disappointed despite only wanting to fight against relegation

High attendance was 2,282 (cup), while we smashed our previous best in the league when 1,003 turned out for a match. Lowest attendance was a pitiful 204, while the average came in at a better, but still poor 539.

Financially, we were worse than last season despite income being significantly higher (match day costs rose massively this season as did other costs), resulting in a loss of around £30k which left the club approximately £370k overdrawn.

Bah, total bragging, 4 divisons in 4 seasons. ( and one without even a promotion).

I suppose there will be some corny reason why you are in a different division next season as well.

No, no change of division for season 5. Just a very small squad, lots of injuries (again) and an inability win in the first 5 games (that's as far as I've got)

Interesting to compare to my Swedish save (which will appear here in a season and one half's time.)
