Not quite the bloodshedding place it once was, but off to Northern Ireland I go. Annagh Utd in Portadown looks like a fine place to start off. Horrible facilities, horrible stadium, nice-looking jumpsuits, nothing in the bank, and a mix of has-beens with cains, and kids still wet behind their ears. This should be fun
Game started with 6.0.3 installed, hopefully that will reduce the number of bugs.
Northern Ireland, Wales and Ireland fully loaded on Normal. Top league of England, Scotland and Norway on Basic. Normal database. This is due to a horribly slow FM-PC, but should provide a nice challenge. Small gene-pool and all that.
Season 2005/06
Annagh Utd - Northern Irish Second Division
Sent the scout on the road, and pretty much signed anything that wanted to join, irregardless of position or quality. Later discovered that a few of the starting players actually weren't totally crap. 7 players join for nada, and 7 others left in January for nothing.
Boards and fans expected mid-table, which we duely overdid. Had a fine season fighting for the title all the way. Nailed it with 7 minutes left of the season in a 2-1 away win, one point ahead of QUB. Cups not much to speak of. Made it to 5th Round of the Irish Cup, where we got humped 3-0 away to Linfield. Made us a little bit of dosh, but not much to fix the gaping hole in our economy. Lost about 130K in the first year.
Season 2006/07
Annagh Utd - Northern Irish First Division
Both fans and board expected us to fight bravely against relegation, as did the media. Odds for promotin at 33-1. Brought in 4 fairly decent looking players on free to help us achieve this. Let 11 players go for a total of 11K, including our very promising DRC who left for Cliftonville for 10K.
As the friendlies suggested quality here wasn't much better than in Second Division, so I expected to be fighting for promotion. Start of the season was insane. We won 11 on the trot, and walked the Intmediate Cup. This was promising. League started off in the same manner, but soon cooled off. Close fight with 4 other teams for the direct promotion spot. They all choked in the end though, and we won the league by 9 points. Crusaders got up through beating Dungannon in the Rel/Prom Playoff.
A young striker I didn't notice or let play much last season got topscorer with 17 hitters.
Leaked a lot of dough this season too, about 200K in the red now. Board are satisfied though. They even gave us 26K in transfer money to spend, as the reserves walked their league. Weird bunch of suits.
Season 2007/08
Annagh Utd - Northern Irish Premier Division
Naturally the board and fans wanted us to fight for survival. Media did the same. Odds for championship set at a whopping 2000-1
After some promising friendlies I aimed for mid-table.
We had 30K to spend now, but it was terribly hard to tempt anything resembling quality. Brought in 8 players for 2K, some of them young and quite promising. 6 players left for 10K. Our dominating AMC was let go for 10K. Got our first youngster through. YAY! He sucked donkeynuts, but wanted to keep him just for the sake of it.
Did quite well in the Irish League Cup. Qualified from group-stage in 2nd, and lost out in the semi away to Glentoran - last year's league champions. Out in the quarter of the Irish Cup away to Glentoran.
Start of the league was very promising. We were fighting for Europe (top 3) the first half of the season. Injuries soon took its toll as the entire midfield was out. And my only decent DL retired on Jan 3rd, despite being a starter. Form soon enough dwindled, but we managed to save 6th in the league by a victory in the last match. Had hoped for more in the league after the good start, but overall happy with the season.
League: 6th P30 W13 D8 L9 37-34 P47
League Cup: Semi Final
Irish Cup: Quarter Final
Continued to leak money, but less now as attendances more than doubled through the season to about a 400 average. 240K on the red side now. Wish I spent the transfer money better as they're all gone now with the new season update
Linfield turned Pro during the summer as the first Northern Irish club. Probably won't be easy to catch them now, they only lost once this season.
