Default Tactical Issues

First of all I would like to say hello, im new here and after lurking the llm forum for a while i am ready to make my first post

Before i go on I must mention I have been playing fm/cm since the very beginning, am hopelessly addicted and always played in my own llm style. After coming accross this section of the forum and having a good read up of the rules i decided i would give it a go this way. (To be honest the only real varient on the way I played the game is i now dont use the player search screen at all and i didnt always start in the bottom league - but i now will)

Wow, this is the way football manager's meant to be played and cant see myself playing any other way. On to my question anyway.

Ive got a game going on my work computer (yes im lucky enough to play at work when the boss isn't around) where ive devised a tactic thats working for me and im having some success (not total domination though). Im now going to start a new game on my home computer in another countrys leagues. The question is am I expected to totally forget about my tactic ive devised (which is the way I would want my team to play in real life) or can i use it? Its far from being a super tactic and may well not work anyway. I expect im going to be told the latter which is fair enough its just its going to be hard to delete from my memory. In this case do i try and master a totally different style of play.

Yours,

confused

Dear confused:

If you have to ask...well, nevermind.

I'd say this is personal preference. You've devised a tactic yourself so it's fine. Surely a manager could take his tactic from one team to another.

As you said, it might not work, especially depending on the players you have available. Managers will always have a style of play that they use (given the right personnel, ofc).

From the amount of games some of us have played, if we had to come up with different tactics each time we'd be playing with a left sided sweeper...oh, wait. :o

It's your game. I imagine the tactic wil change somewhat with different players and results in any case.

I can't see a problem to be honest. Just think of your tactic as something you've worked out as a player or when you were doing your coaching badges if it makes you feel better.

So what you are saying is that a lot of you llm's use the same tactic give or take a few tweaks for different saves once you find one that works for you?

Not exactly.

LLaMas tend to start off with a basic tactic and adjust the instructions according to the relative skills/uselessness of the players available.

I tend to use the same formation, but only because it's the most commonly used in British football and fits in with the players' positions I recognise from the late 60s and early 70s, and the instructions can be...unusual

Yes. I carry a tactic over.

Tactics for me are usually ever-evolving - to suit players, leagues, etc, so once I have my "default", which is a variant of the "normal" formation I'll happily carry it to a new game. It's going to last about 5 minutes before I start adjusting it anyway, so I'm not going to make myself re-invent the wheel.

If I ever discovered an abnormally good tactic, I'd probably not want to carry that over, but I'd rather use a realistic tactic than a good one anyway

I tend to go with whatever is the usual formation for that area of the world. xure its not that obvious sometimes but in england its obviously similar to the default formation, in spain I'd probably start with something similar to barca, italy I'd probably look at a more defense oriantated start and so on.

Obviously doesnt work as well if you go somewhere like russia though.

I tend to use the same formation wherever I go. With some tweaks to suit players.

I usually carry over my tactics from club to club in the same game, since I find it realistic that a **** manager sticks to what he knows best.

I love it if I force out the best players just because they don't fit in my plans.
