Default From Thurrock to Wrexham

FM 2006, latest patch.

Database size normal, Leagues running, English Premiership, Championship, League One, League Two, Conference, Conference North, Conference South and American Major League Soccer.

Decided to take control of my nearest Conference South side Thurrock. (Now that Redbridge are down (twice ))

Season 2005/2006, Conference South, Thurrock

Could not have gone better (unless I got the extra 20 points or so to catch up to Weymouth :eek. Promising Defender got sold to Aston Villa for £250,000 plus future incentatives allowing my wage budget to be practically doubled Made a few good signings thanks to my scouts including a 2 ST, one on a free and one costing £3,000 from Barking and East Ham and they managed to get a combined total 32 league goals. Also got a CM from Mansfield who had been capped for the Ireland Under 21's and a season loan of a RM/ST also from Mansfield who was brilliant.

Never had a problem in the league staying in the play offs the whole season, even managed a double over Weymouth and managed to finish 2nd 6 points clear of 3rd placed Cambridge City.

Position - 2nd, Played - 42, Won - 21, Drew - 11, Lost - 10, Scored - 61, Conceded - 30, Goal Difference - + 31, Points - 74

Beat Dorchester over 2 legs in the play offs, losing 1-0 at Dorchester and winning 4-2 at Ship Lane.

Met Cambridge City in the final and beat them 3-2.

FA Cup went out at Ship Lane 1-0 on a replay to local rivals Dagenham and Redbridge.

Fa Trophy went out on a replay away at Cirencester.

Season 2006/2007, Conference National, Thurrock

Didn't make that many changes from last season, however managed to sign a young striker from Oldham and a 16 year old schoolboy striker, both who were scoring on a regular basis. (Only ones who could score though! )

My defence was an absolute rock, and it was that and Conference class keeper keeping me in mid table, climbing as high as 9th into December after going on a 5 match unbeaten streak, winning 4 of the games, scoring 5 goals and conceding 1. It was just after this streak that League 2 Wrexham who were 22nd in a very tight League decided that I would be the ideal replacement for their ex manager, Thurrock was not going anywhere due to the fact we were still part time , so i accepted.

FA Cup I went out in the First Round proper to Macclesfield, 3-2 at Macclesfield.

Went out in the FA Trophey Second Round 2-0 away at Bath.

Season 2006/2007, League Two, Wrexham

So I arrive at Wrexham, 22nd position first game at home to top of the table Grimsby Town, surely a defeat? I won 10-1  . (WTF?!)

Still, i arrived just in time for the January Transfer Window making a lot of changes to the squad, including a striker who i will call The Chosen One, who hit 15 goals in 19 games.

Managed to rise up the league and by Late February I was 5th, however an absolute disaster to the end of the season that saw me pick up about 8 points in March and April. (However I did beat Peterborough 7-1 ). This saw me fall back down to 15th, 7 points off of the drop, and 6 off of the play offs.

Position - 15th, Won - 18, Drew - 6, Lost - 22, Scored - 75, Conceded - 60, Goal Difference - +15, Points - 60

Season 2007/2008, League Two, Wrexham

An absolutly excellent season. Managed to wipe out the £500,000 debt by selling The Chosen One's strike partners, Power Man and Mr I Can Head The Ball for £550,000 each and a young keeper I signed from Arsenal on a free was off to Portsmouth for £500,000 after 14 days at Wrexham. Boosted up my midfield and strike force with significant signings including a Man U youth left winger who I'll call Mr Amazing and the Donkey up front. (Scouts told me he'd require an instant place in the team, after 15 games 0 goals and a rating of about 6.20 Still, in January Northampton splashed out £150,000 for him....

First half of the season I got off to a terrific start being top of the league up to December where a poor month pushed me down to 5th.

In January did a lot more wheeling and dealing signing 2 good strikers, a keeper, a Venerzualen international midfielder who hadn't fitted in at Crystal Palace, a RM, a LB and a CB and selling a few players. However they all took a while to fit in as January was also a disaster as I slipped down to 7th, 9 points off of leaders Crewe, having been 6 points clear at the start of January.

February onwards I was unbeatable, being beaten only twice and I went on to win the League 4 points clear of Walsall and Leyton Orient with Northampton going up through the play offs. During this period I also won the LDV Vans Trophy

The Chosen One bagged 42 goals in all competitions and Mr Amazing got 28 assists.

Position - 1st, Won - 26, Drew - 9, Lost - 11, Scored - 94, Conceded - 43, Goal Difference - +51, Points - 87

LDV Vans I beat Swindon Town 3-0 in the final.

FA Cup went out on TV away at Bristol City 1-0 in the First Round.

League Cup I also went out in the first round 2-0 away at Preston North End.

Thurrock finished 11th. (Still part time).
