To set the scene, in 2007/2008 my League 2 Bishop’s Stortford team signed a 17yo Irish player, who had received rave views from all my scouts. His stats were good for someone his age, and I was surprised that no one higher had snapped him up.

Literally the same day as he signed , Crystal Palace asked how much we would sell for. Trying to scare them off, I said £1m, up front with a 25% of future transfer. I was shocked that they came back with the cash.

Anything similar happened to anyone. I feel like Chelsea with all this cash to spend! SIOSI

It proves that it can happen...which is all that is needed really. It's not like people are flooding in saying it happens all the time. It's never happened to me.

If anyone mentions that the game was released before this RL event occured I will not be impressed. :whistles:

I hesitate to disagree with anyone (especially Jockmodbloke) but I see nothing wrong with this. You track a player, you sign him \o/ great.
If another team has also been tracking him but have been beaten to the punch and now want to offer some serious money for him that is not your problem. I think putting an unrealistic transfer fee is just a way of scaring another team off.
Sometimes the AI can be a bit stupid but I do not think, in this case, that the OP has done anything wrong. He just got lucky.

Thanks for the comments.

The high trnasfer fee was put in to scare Palace away, but then they offered it was too much for my newly promoted LG2 side to turn down.

I'm leaning in churches direction on this one. What you have got to ask was why was the AI manager so dumb that he didn't make amove on him 24 hours earlier when he could have got him for a fraction of the cost.

Personally I will try the demo for FM07 and if the million pound conference transfer south BUG is not sorted I will leave FM07 to the kids.
