What if things were the other way round, and you were after a player who'd just signed for another club - would it be realistic to put a bid in for him?

My own view on this is that you wouldn't (at least not at the lower levels), and my rule of thumb is that I won't try and sign a player during his first season at another club.

I probably wouldn't at lower level but once I am up in the top 3 leagues I will poach players from lower league clubs with impunity. I don't care if the player has only been there an hour, if my scout finds him and he looks as though he will improve my side, I will make an offer. They should think themselves lucky to be getting some money for him.

I tend not to bid for players who have just signed for clubs, as they dont want to move.

I havent ever had £1m to spend on 1 player, so no i doubt i would look sign a someone like this. I just keep them in my shortlist, and have the scout to take look now and then.

If my scout says the boy can play I will go after him irrespective of how long he has been playing for the other team. Fortunately the game has a mechanism to stop Lower League Managers going after recently transfered players. It call NO TRANSFER FUNDS and is the main feature in most of our games.

There was also some German defender who used to play for Dortmund, who was then sold to Auxerre, and sold from there to Bayern after a mere 3 hours.

Reason for that was that the defender had a clause that barred him from moving to a different German club.

Still. Until it is implemented in FM that a player that I bought sais that he signed only to be allowed to move to some other club, I say selling a player on the same day he signed is unreallistic.

I was not saying that it's realistic to do it. I was just telling a story.

I remember the message.... "Blah blah blah has only recently moved to xyz and and the club don't want to sell him" is that still in fm06, I don't think I have seen the mssage myself but then again I probably didn't go after a player that has just moved to another club.

So, what would be realistic. would it be 6 months, three months, a day less than three months? If a team offers me money for a player, I do not check to find out when I bought him and send them a reply saying sorry, he has only been here for 325 days and I cannot sell him until he has been here a year.

In a previous save I got a chap in on a Bosman, and by the time he signed, he was no longer in my plans for the team. I offered him a free transfer, I offered him a negotiated settlement, he did not want either. I put him on the transfer list, and offered him to all clubs (I admit, with a value of £0) and I offloaded him. If another team had come in straight away with an cash offer, before I offered him, I would have sold, definitely.
Realistic, I think so.
