A great career

Daneland seems a bit too good for you though...

Although I've been rather pleased with the signings I've made over the years, I've never really given the scouts credit for the work they've done. I now know why.

Having gone back (while delaying the inevitable ie. an away match at Stamford Bridge), I had a look at all the players I signed for Naval or Walsall. Out of the ~4000, not a single one has gone on to win a full International cap (excluding the ones who'd already got a cap when I signed them).

And of that multitude, only the £16m GK now at Liverpool looks likely to change that in the future.
The rest? Exactly.

Season 12: FC Kobenhavn
With offers flying in for the ex-Real striker, he eventually got unhappy, so I reluctantly sold him to Villa for £6.5m + 50%. I took the cash and bought a Dutchie for £5m from Utrecht. A Paraguayan AML was signed for £65k and looked a fantastic prospect either side of a torn calf - a Nigerian kid kept his wing warm swimmingly. I offloaded a few players my AssMan thought weren't good enough. The guy who just played 34 Serie A matches for Chievo might disagree - he left for £400k. My star-in-the-making AMLC left in January once the bids from ManUre and Phoney got too much. £5.5m + 50% was a nice price though.

Danish Premier Division: As hard as we tried, we couldn't fail to win the league. A shoddy opening quarter saw us lose 5 games and still top the table after 13 matches. From then on we improved and a win over the 2nd placed team with 4 games to go saw us Champions.
Final Position: W:25 D:2 L:6 GD:+55 Pts:77 Pos:1st

Danish Cup: Took it slightly more seriously, but a horrible backheader led to Holbaek's only shot on target, which went in. Our 17 were saved.

European Cup: Qualified vs. Sparta Prague, which was harder than the 8-2 agg. score suggests. Lost the first group stage match 1-2 against Werder Bremen's only shot on target and then scored 3 at Stamford Bridge for no points. After that, it was more or less all over, but we would have gone through if Panathanaikos' 3 shots on target hadn't led to them coming from 3 goals behind against us. Beating Chelski 4-0 at home was small consolation.

UEFA Cup: Academica's keeper deserves a medal, the streaky ****er. (Not a word, Gil.)

Royal League: Comfortably qualified from the groups, Quarters and Semis. Facing OB in the final, we scored after 18 seconds of the 1st half and 90 seconds of the 2nd half. The Danish guy made it a hattrick 8 minutes later and would have made it 4 if the OB defender hadn't valiantly got himself sent off 15 minutes afterwards. 3-0 and easy.

My Danish striker picked up 'Best Player of the Year' for the European Cup... which was nice, if a little odd. He ended up with 15 goals from 15 games in the league, the Dutchie got 15 from 16 and a Spaniard 13 from 17. Without the midweek European matches, they could easily have had 30 each. I dropped my experienced keeper; his 3 replacements played well enough. A few of the more experienced players will be leaving in the summer and their replacements are already inbound.

This will definitely be my last season at FCK.

I had a quick look for jobs in the summer, but the only tempting job was Staines Town and they already had a manager.

I went all-out for some European success but unless Roma have suddenly got much worse, that ain't gonna happen. I've hit the glass ceiling, I think. Still, let's see how high I can get on the Danish Hall of Fame.

Season 13: FC Kobenhavn
Offers came in for the Dutchie and the Paraguayan AML. I held out on the Dutchie (annoying him in the process) but caved in on the AML to the tune of £4.3m + 50%. Despite this, I signed another striker, this time a Brazilian International cooling his heels at Lazio (who he'd chosen over me previously) for £6.75m. The only other major deal was an Argie DLC from Inter for £3.1m. {Insert random number of minor buys/sales.}

Danish Premier Division: It took until our 21st game to lose a game- one of those hair-rippingly coronary 1-0 matches where your players most closely resemble drunken lemmings and the opposition defenders all turn into Gandalf ("You shall not pass!"). The first half of the season was a bit bitty, but after the winter break, I reevaluated my tactics (not quite K.I.S.S., but not far off) and the league matches were a gentle breeze. We clinched our 4th consecutive Championship with 7 games to go. The last 7 games weren't anything to compose epic poems about, but there you go.
Final Position: W:25 D:7 L:1 GD:+54 Pts:82 Pos:1st

Danish Cup: Since I had enough players for '2 squads' (one for midweek, one for weekend), the midweek squad was the European squad. Suffice to say that my best 11 players never had any trouble in reaching the Final (although a 6-0 away win over Esbjerg in the Semis was more than even I'd expected). We had 'one of those matches' in the Final, conceding early and only equalising late on, despite dominating quite thoroughly. I subbed in some penalty takers and they sent us home winners.

European Cup: Qualified against Steaua and was drawn in a group along with Lazio (holders), Rangers and Burghausen(!). Lazio were tough, but we probably deserved at least a point from the 2 games. 'Gers were just cnuts, winning practically every feckin header and robbing us of 2 points in the home leg which meant that it didn't really matter how many we put past Burghausen (5 in total), finishing in 3rd.

UEFA Cup: Drew Roma () in the 1st knockout leg. Took a 3-2 deficit back to Parken and deservedly got a 2-0 win. Our reward was a tie against Caen which sounds easier than it was- we won 2-1 at home, but at 1-1 with two minutes left in the second leg, I was mightily relieved when the Brazilian popped up with his 2nd goal to clinch it. Newcastle awaited us in the QFs and their goalkeeper was the best player over 2 legs as they won 2-0 at home (4-3 on aggregate) thanks to an exceptionally dubious goal in the 86th minute.

Royal League: Eased our way through the various rounds to the final where we faced Rosenborg. They put up reasonable resistance for 56 minutes before the Brazilian got the first of his 3 headed goals as we won 3-0.

Sold the Dutchie in January for £7.5m + 50% - I can't decide if we missed him. The Brazilian and Spanish strikers got 25 goals each and the Dane got 20 (his 11 assists were better than the others'). Brought in some more defenders (including a youngster for £6m) to shore things up.

And that's it for now. The savegame is 1.3GB in size and the save/load time is getting stupid. I'm putting this one on ice for now.
