Default Gd 'Knight' Mate, a tale from a land down under

At last after several failed attempts at managing 3 seasons without being sacked most notably in Spain twice, England thrice, France, I have managed to be still employed going into my 4th season.

Saw Frank he recommended I try to ‘A league Premiership’ down under and so I was packed my bags and headed to New Zealand to coach the Knights.

Leagues loaded England, Scotland, USA, Argentina & Australia, Normal Database.

Staff 1 Ass man 1 Coach, 2 Physios, 1 Scout

2005/2006

P21 W5 D5 L 11 Points 20 position 7th (out of 8th)
Cups: A-League 3rd Group A, FFA cup DNQ
13 players in for £31k 10 players out for £24k

I also signed 2 scouts one with good stats for youth, and 1 Coach.

2006/2007

P21 W4 D5 L12 Points 17, position 8th.
Cups: A- League 2nd Group B, FFA Cup 2nd round

13 players in £26k, 8 players out for £240k inc Star DMC, AM LC, SC, reserve DMC MR reserve SC, AMR, the club was heaving in debt to the tune of £500k with 2 cash injections from the board one both for £70k. I needed to off load some players to bring the debt down, so out went half my first choice team, and the 8 players that come in were all young lads as the board had told me to build for the future.

On the Staff front I offered my Ass Man who was out of contract a new contract as a coach, and promoted one my of Scouts to Ass Man, a new scout was also picked up.

2 players with some good stats came through the academy and forced their way in to the 1st team squad a 16yr old SW who made 6, 1st team starts and a 16yr old Goalkeeper who managed to oust the #1 New Zealand GK for the final 3 games things were looking good for 2007/2008.

2007/2008

P21 W7 D7 L7 Points 33 Position 4th
Cups A-League Group B 3rd, FFA Cup 2nd Round, A Championship Prelim Final, Runner up.

5 players in for £23k 9 players out for £250k, with the club still losing money I had to sell more of my 1st team squad including star SC who bagged 12 goals in 06/07 AMR, reserve AMR, DMC, reserve SC, and reserve DR amongst others.

U20’s side finished 1st.

However all was not lost, young Aussie MC who was picked up on a free from a minor Aussies side went to on the make 27 appearances scored 2 goals made 9 assists and averaged 7.40, young 16yr old Goalkeeper (now 17) forced his way in to the side from the 1st game and made 27 appearances kept 9 clean sheets and averaged 7.22, I even turned down 2 bids of over £70k & £100k from high profile Belgian side. Young 16yr old SW only managed 2 sub appearances, however the players scouted and picked up in 2006/2007 were starting to come together.

Just a quick note losing in the Preliminary Final doesn't make you the runner up

Its kind of like the semi final of any other Cup competition in the world which decides who will play in the final

I didn't know A-league clubs had youth academy?

Also, I'm certain that the A-league clubs are limited to a squad of 20 players + short term emergencies.

SI have obviously put in as much thought as usual into the Aussie league.

Apologies in advance if I've ruined your game.

Very right. I believe its a 21 man squad + short term signings. Also i believe all the 'youth' players are simply from nearby clubs (almost like feeder clubs) just like in other sports here like the NRL

It started that way with no more than 20+ players for the first 2 seasons it want until the 3rd season that it went to a max squad of 36 players, there isnt an academey as such I just get a message now and again to say they have promoted a couple of players from said 'academy'
