My first Fm2006 Career game and where better to start than my favourite holiday destination!
In the interests of realism I will only be consuming Spanish wines or beers during this career. If things go to plan I am trying to tempt the missus out to the island for a winter break, cunningly planned to coincide with a home game.
That may be the most interesting part of the update.

Loaded up Poofland - all leagues and obviously all Spanish leagues.
Horrified to find that I only had 4 defenders in the whole squad /o\.
I guess the prediction of relegation battlers won't be too far from the truth then.
After some frantic work for my scouts, I managed to get in 3 players before the start of the league season, including a decrepit old nag of a 37 year old LC to ease my defensive crisis. 3 other signings followed, but due to my ineptitude at understanding the registration rules only one of the made a first team appearance.
League survival was indeed the summit of my capabilities this year with an eventual finish of 14th, 1 point above the relegation spot some achievement considering my initial crapness.

Highlight of the season was a 5-0 whipping of soon to be relegated Fuenlabrada.
Sadly the lowlight of the year a 5-1 assraping by Leganes followed in the next match.
One other point of interest were my under18s winning their league. Handy seeing as they only had 4 active players. 2 of which I signed from gray when desperate!
Another twist that interested me was my ability to negotiate an improvement in training facilities when i signed my new contract. I genuinely felt elated by that and await notification of any slight improvement with baited breath.
For non cup-suckers who may be interested, I progressed through the preliminary round winning both legs against Conquense, only to find that I wasn't in the draw for round one! After much gnashing of teeth and Rioja consumption I appeared in round two. Sadly Zamora kicked my arse and that was it for another year! Roll on preseason break and a trip to Timanfaya.
