2022/23
Probably one of the longest and most interesting of seasons that I have ever played in any version of CM/FM.
The season starteed early (according to my fixture list in 2021/22!) with the intertwobob cup.
I cruised through the early rounds against Zimbry, Iraklis and Everton to set up a "final" against Athletico Madrid.
Somewhat embarrassingly I had a bit of a DM moment, having lost the away leg 2-1 and leading the home leg 1-0, I somehow managed to convince myself that I was losing on away goals.Having thrown everyone forward and failing to break the deadlock I stumbled dejectedly to the fridge to get another wine, only to return and find that I had the option of congratulating the team on their success! /o\ What a twat!
I made decent progress in the UEFA cup qualifying from a group that included poofy Palermo!
Met them again in the first knockout round and trounced them before edging past Murcia 5-4 on aggregate.
We then came up against Man Utd in the quarter finals and were unlucky to be edged out on away goals.
All told a massive 20 European games!
The Copa del Rey with Lanzarote missing out in the final 0-1 to Espanyol despite outplaying them for most of the game.
The league campaign jogged along nicely, never dropping below tenth place. With five games to go I was sat in second place with no real prospect of catching Barcelona. Place two to five were very tight seperated by just two points.
The long season was really taking its toll and I limped towards the line.
Come the last came I had dropped to fourth place just two points above Real Madrid, with goal difference being heavily in my favour.
Come the last game day I had an away game against mid-table Betis, whilst Real Madrid being at home to lowly Recreativo.
Madrid scored early and won comfortably, whilst my jaded boys conceded early and were two down at half time.
I rang the changes and nicked one back after fifty one minutes, but the game looked up when I conceded a penalty in the sixty ninth minute. Fortunately, their striker passed it back to my keeper and the score stayed at 1-2.
With four minutes to go, we won a corner and scored a scrappy goal to tie the match at 2-2.
A massively tense few minutes then elapsed with only three defenders on the pitch and all subs made.
I held on to take fourth place on goal difference, Champions League here I come! \o/
P38 W19 D11 L8 F61 A39 PTS68
Phew, by my reckoning that was a massive 65 games. Nine of my players featured in 50 or more and deserve a decent summer break.
I did use my squad to the full though, with 39 players getting some pitch time.
I did some good business in the transfer market, bringing in four players on Bosmans whilst I lost/released nine on frees and sold three more for £8.75M.
The Under 18s crashed out of their cup in the second round, but won their league again with a perfect record.
P24 W24 D0 L0 F113 A2 PTS72!
Up to 41st in the UEFA club rankings!
Apologies for the length of the update, but it truly was a very enjoyable season!

The longer the updates the better!
And are you getting a bit fed up with Lanzarote? I mean, 15+ seasons I could never do!

But Lukewarm is allowed the occasional long update, especially after a decent season like that.
