Nice work. I live in the US but grew up in Basingstoke.. I remember fondly our 2nd Rnd FA cup home tie against Torquay. About 10 years ago now. I miss the Camrose dammit.
I have yet to get FM06.. waiting on FM07. But I recently started a FM05 game as Basingstoke. Starting with no money, and mid table expectations. I'm half way through the season and top of the table, my scouts found a couple of nice back up players, but the main players are working pretty good for me.

A Basingstoker living in the USA? Are you Hogie in disguise?
Didn't we have an FA cup 2nd/3rd round tie against Wycombe a few years back? ('98 maybe?)

For this season, the board decided that the was ready to turn professional and so any new contract was strongly advised to be full time. All this was only added pressure. Our topscorer who had been a real goal machine for 3 seasons (Winner of the Supporters’ player of the year in those 3 years) now was finally now a “board” favourite. It was about time you big old bullies. I knew that if we were to salvage anything more than relegation, which we were strongly tipped for by pundits, it was going to be in major part related to his performances. He wasn’t worth much (at least to other teams) but to me, he was a great player and a great person.
And in the end, isn’t it what matters? What you really think of your players or what you believe they can do for you, rather than their “value” on the “market” so to speak. I mean most wouldn’t give me more than a penny for this aging striker but I wouldn’t even give him away for millions, like most members of this squad. Sure I brought in a couple of new faces but I did not let go of any of the players that really did it for me last season and are the ones deserving to play, even if this could prove to be too much for them. Loyalty is something I value a lot. I ask my players to be loyal, I have, in return, to be loyal to them. What kind of man would I be to not play the guys who led us here and play some strangers who haven’t even worked to get us here?!? You tell me.
Right before the season started and we had gotten through encouraging friendlies, some team from our league sold a guy to a Premiership team for €775K. I was in shock. I was surprised someone would pay that much for a player. I was also disgusted. Let’s face it, last season we did not come near making that money in total income! How are we going to be competitive in such a league??? If there is something that really discourage me these days in sports, it’s the money, the business. Can’t we just play the game?
We had a surprise for the players in our last friendly of preseason as we had set up a game against Manchester United Reserves. I won’t bother you with the details but at least I thought, if we got relegated (we are 40 to 1 for promotion) and never went back to this level, the guys will be able to tell their kids they’ve played against the reserve squad of a legendary club. I know that’s not much, but that’s the least I could do for them. They had fun, like kids at an amusement park. It’s then that I discovered some players still have fun playing football and that gave me back some belief in the game.
Oh yeah, the season… well, looks like it was too much for my guys and I shouldn’t have stuck with them after all… Conference National: 24th (relegated) FA Cup: 2nd round FA Trophy: 2nd round
Oh yeah, and to top things off, I got the boot from the board, thanks a lot d-heads!!!

| Sorry Jeff, but I was already thinking relegation when I read this bit, and that was before I got to the end
Keep you chin up, and good luck finding another club

It's quite a big step between the Conference N/S and the Conference National, but then I guess you know all about that now
Good luck with your next job.

Can any mod please close this thread???
I've been feckin unemployed for 3 years now!!!!
I will start a new one with all leagues running so that gives me a chance to get a job maybe...
Another question: I asked Frank for a LLM team and he gave me FC Baden. Now I wanna know if it really qualifies as LLM?
I understand there are only 2 leagues in Switzerland so I think this is kind of a stretch isn't it?
If it is, I'll just slap Frank for such stupidity lol
Thanks in advance and sorry for stopping this thread but I'm sure you'll all get bored of updates saying XX/XX season: Unemployed. Never thought it would be so hard to get another job. It ain't fair, I mean even LFCFan was able to get a job!!! |

No Hogie,
The problem was I did put too much attention in the fleet. In fact I invested all the club's money on the burger vans... That's what has upsetted the board maybe? Surely no...
