I've players who are willing to join my club from another club, but when their contracts run out with that club, as free agents they no longer are interested. And they won't become interested either, they'll just be without a club until they retire.

What is wrong with that and is there a way around it (I'm guessing there is not)?

I'm not sure abut players being interested before, and then not.

But when there's a free agent that says he's not interested in joning me, but I think i can persuade him, I often try to get him on trial.

This will only work if no-one else is interested, but often (and not always) he will come on trial for a couple of weeks, even if he doesn't want to sign. Its extra training to keep his fitnes up, and there's no commitment.

Once he's been around and got a feel for the club, he sometimes feels he could settle in, and will be much more interested if he's offeed a contract while training at the club.
