I have started a few games with Bayern Munich but in each one by the end of the first season my balance has decreased dramatically.
In my most recent game I have a wage balance of £752k only spending £562 of it and at the start of the season sold players totalling £18m and bought £11m.
My average wage is £9k and I pay for all players outright so there are no monthly payments. I actually have monthly payments coming in for some of my sold players.
Despite this, every month I make a loss of £2-3m and it's driving me potty because mid season they increase my budget but there's no way I can spend it as if I did by the end of the season i'd be in the red.
That's the thing that really annoys me about the finances in the FM games. They give you the budgets and the transfer cash, but also expect you to control the club finances, which does NOT just involve keeping within the constraints of the board. Personally, I'd prefer either a system where you only had to worry about keeping within budget, and the board wouldn't punish you for them losing money, or have almost total financial control - you see how much money you are losing, and set your own wage budgets from that, although that option would be less realistic.
My advice would be to try to make it to the end of the first season, not renewing any contracts of any players that are not automatically first-team choices. Sell any of your good players, and watch out for Bosman transfers. Release any players taking up too much of your wage budgets. Also, check the finance screen and see where you're losing money. If it's something you can control, then try to control it. Obviously, it won't be just wages, as losing £2m a month is £500k a week, which I'm guessing you're not spending on fringe players.
That's just it, the players i'm spending higher wages on are my first team and I can't get rid of them. All of my backup players are on next to nothing and a majority are under 23 so are just over 1k a week.
I checked the summary and my main outlay is match day costs, which I can't control and then the board start giving off towards the end of the season re: finances.
It should be recognised that the finances under my control are doing well rather than getting the blame for all financial aspects, this is totally unrealistic.
I had the same problem when I managed in Scotland, I was well within my bugets with Hibs and spent next to nothing on players, selling a majority of the time and still ended up being sacked when it went in the red.
I wonder what Si thinks about this. Its nice that you can have an effect on finances but its not normal that they blame you if it is a structural problem.
A glitch in the financial model i think. Just like many people experience Man Utd going into administration after a few seasons, which in reality would'nt happen.
Dispite the "loans" the Glaziers secured on the club to finance the purchase, the annual profits from merchandising alone more than substantially cover the repayments.
I'm sure SI will be looking to give this aspect an overhaul, although I imagine getting the most accurate details is always going to be difficult.
SI phone up a club - "Hi, we're researching the club information for our new game... would you mind telling us how much debt you're in please!!"
