as i don't live in italy and sure as heck dont know italian, i could use some help on what co-ownership means.
is it both clubs own the player, but one club lets the other use the player, but can recall him? or does it mean both own the player but he only plays for one permanently?

i think it is both own 50% but he can only play for one permenantly.

both own him, he plays for 1. At any time one club can try and buy him from the other to own the player outright. At a certain time(it varies from player to player) the player becomes available for both clubs to try and buy him outright. The highest bidder owns him.

I've never done this and don't know what happens if no one bids

if you have the player and your bid is 0 euro and the other teams bid is 0 euro to then the player will remain at his current club
