Why the 2D engine changes so much in each version?
Hi, first sorry my english.
I played all version of cm and fm, no doubt about it is the best manager game ever.
I only play the 2D match, i dont play highlights or only commentary.
In Fm2007 i played more then 100 matches watching the match entire.
For me, the best 2D engine were the FM2007 with the 7.0.2. patch installed.
But i have the feeling that in each version of the game, or each patch, the 2D changes dramatically.
After play the FM2007 i get happy thinking how much the 2D in fm2008 will be improved but for me the 2D of fm2008 is very bad.
I dont know so much english to explain all points but , my question is , ¿why?
I still seeing many errors in all versions:
- Stupid off sides (players that are in legal position 2 meters but the referee see an off side)
- Stupid long pass, players that kick the ball to a mate that is 10 meters ahead but the player that has the ball kick it with a exagerate strenght and the ball goes soooo long.
- Free kicks, many times the player that kick a free kick gives the ball to a rival without reason, and when i say "many times" i say "many times in a match"
Well, i have many points to discuss, but my question is why the 2D is worst now than fm2007 (IMO)

Actually, I thought the 2D was more realistic than in 07 (where, BTW, weird offside calls were also quite common).
I think I'm going to be in the minority here, but I agree with you. FM08 has some pretty bad annoyances in the match engine, but some of what happened in FM07 had me tearing my hair out, especially the ridicolous number of 40 yard back headers.

I agree with you that in many aspects the 2D is better than fm2007, the players looks more "flexibles", dribbling is much better, more realistic in the movements of the players.
But i cant understand why in any aspects that in fm2007 the game were good, in fm2008 the game is really bad, closing down, i read that is a bug but for me is impossible to play if my players only watch the ball and they doesn't go to take it.
Right now i think that is impossible to make a good defensive system in fm2008 because players only watch the ball.
I want to know if you agree with me with the long balls:
Player A with the ball
Player B 20 meters ahead
Player A kick the ball, 60 meters!!! And the ball goes to goal kick.

I play a very successful defensive system on 2008, conceded only 21 goals in 42 league matches in the season I just finished, you just have to learn how to use the tactics/player instructions properly.
It took me some time and trial and error, but I have gotten it right. The game isn't as flawed as you make out, your ability to play it is.
The closing down bug has been fixed.

Neil, off sides is true, there are many off sides with players "2 meters" in legal position, or players that are back to the line of the ball and the referee kicks off side.
I don't want to say stupid long passes, i prefer to say "tooo long pass, with exagerate strength".
