Maybe I'm being picky, but if I lived in England for 5 years, would I not become a British Citizen rather than English? Similar, in Scotland I'd become a British citizen rather than Scottish.
Am I right with that?
If so, surely any time spent in either England or Scotland should count towards my citizenship? So why do players get English and Scottish citizenship - depending which league they played in!!
Must be a hard thing adding to the game. Correct me if I'm wrong - but as a british citizen (a footballer), can he not choose freely if he likes to play for Scotland, England, Wales or N. Ireland? Can remember something about that when Giggs choice Wales.

No, cos that is your nationality, which is different to having citizenship!
Giggs could have played for Wales or England because he was born in one and had Grandparents born in the other. So no, British citizenship would not allow you to choose which to play for.

Btw to my knowledge, there isn't anything such as an english, welsh or scottish citizen... but a british citizen under the British nationality law.
Yes, exactly, which was my point
No such think as an 'English citizen', you can have English nationality but would be a British citizen I believe.
which is why time spent in England, N Ireland, Wales or Scotland should count towards British citizenship.
I know it is being picky and SI were just being lazy cos it is too hard to work out how to implement this probably
Agreed, possibly difficult to implement in the game, but it is quite a unique setup in world football terms.
In the game, the concept of Britain and British does'nt actually exist as far as I see it.
As for Ryan Giggs, there was a difference. His father was Welsh. I believe that FIFA have either brought in or are proposing that unless a player has direct ancestry, up to grandparents at furthest retrospectively, they cannot "choose" a nation based solely on "citizenship". I believe this is due to the number of south American players who are starting to appear for east European nations based on their "citizenship".
Mate, btw thx for taking this issue up. Had same thoughts for a while ago.
Don't know if this is a hard thing to implement. But yes, a stay in a scottish club then a move to an english one, those stays should count as one - like the player never left.

There is one further final complexity, do people not have to take a 'Britishness' test? I'd LOVE to see that applied in FM.
Kaka blitzed his way through the Citizenship test and is now a British citizen.
Or if a player does not have enough intelligence they could fail it Of course I could not possibly suggest which players would fail such a test

Britishness' test! What does it imply? Drinking tea all day *LOL* Just joking. But it would be a nice touch if SI added this. Sort it out Si!!! </BLOCKQUOTE>
Yep, the questions are basically about which type of Tea to drink when during the day. With which meal type might you enjoy a particular type of tea. The Milk, sugar, honey options etc.
If you don't know how to drink the tea then you cannot be part of our country
(seriously though the quiz is about history, borders, wars and is supposed to ensure people who are becoming citizens know something about the country!)
