I played the demo version of the game, and because the match engine was awful, i chose not to purchase the game. I read a few weeks after that that a lot of the problems were (allegedly) solved in the beta 1 patch. So, I'm wondering if strikers still fail to score on 70% of free kicks, if no one plays defense properly, if your team wins all 10 games at home, and loses all 10 away (because the home/away advantage/disadvantage was way over done), and if 16 year old players on a big name team won't sign with an equally big name team (Barca and Real Madrid, for example), even when you offer the kid 250,000 euros... etc etc...
has this game been improved since the demo version, or is it still a "disgrace" and "outrage" as many people have labelled it?
yes. Download the patch and it is quality. I don't like the beta patches, any game where Geremi can have 15 by xmas, all from free kicks, all from over thirty yards away isn't good enough for me but.....the official patch is good. The match engine is excellent, except for the one on one issue, that, whilst annoying at times, isn't as bad as people make out.
Ignore the above post. Obviously some fanboy who doesnt know hat he is talking about. The game is broken and the 8.01 patch introduced just as many bugs as it fixed. My advice is continue to play FM07 for now and wait on the next patch to see if Fm08 is worth buying.

well im sooo sorry to have a different opinion mr dictator!
get the game im thoughly enjoying it people seem to be blowing things way out of propotion
DS- I'm a fanboy? Why cos I disagree with you. I have posted many things which are negative about this game, particularly the out of the box version which was awful. I don't play this game enough to be a fanboy...What a loser you are
Also you have to remember that 80% of the people that post on here are unhappy. All he people that love the game are busy playing it. Some people class it as unplayable but you'll see a dude who has just played his 1000th match as manager and is into 2020....does that sound unplayable?
Thanks a lot for your help. See, I had sooo many issues with FM07, and if FM08 isn't better I almost don't want to deal with it. i mean I wasted a lot of time on FM07, but it was still a disgrace. The biggest fault of the game was making it impossible to sign a bunch of players. For instance, I couldn't sign Beckham from Real Madrid, even if I was Barcelona, even if I doubled his salary, et cetera, and this happened with sooo many players. Yet, what do you know, Beckham goes and signs with an American team. Why? For money. FM is just too presumptious for me. As in, it presumes to know which players would move to which clubs, and for what money. That would be fine with me if every player had a price, but the problem with the game is that when a player has "no intention" of joining your club, it doesn't matter how many billion euros u offer him a week - he still doesn't come sign with you, which is completely ridiculous, unrealistic, and a pain in the ass.
Secondly, the tutoring in FM was a pain. i wanted to mold my players and make them have more moves, but it wouldnt let me tutor them with the players i wanted them to learn from... et cetera et cetera...
Additionally, small name players would have much bigger impacts on the game than big name players. Steven Gerrard and Kaka would both average a below a 7.3 a game for me, when players like Guardado, Marcelo, Higuain, Eddie Johnson, Gago, Okaka, et cetera et cetera would average over 7.5's a game...
Just FM07 was such a complete mess that I was hoping it would get a major overhaul with 08, and... apparently... that's not the case, aye?
