So I've created my own beautiful database. BUT I can't use it.
I started a new game, went to preferences -> general -> database: where I selected my newly created database. I press confirm and continue to load my new game, yet the game still uses to old one.

When you start a new game it asks you which database you want to use...so you select it and load up the database. So if you choose it then there's no reason why it shouldn't use you database.
