After struggling to get to grips with FM 2007 I have finally managed to cobble together a tactic that seems to be getting some pretty good results for me. I call it Erasmus, and you can download it here:
It is a 4-4-2 tactic, that is primarily attacking. The back four are all man markers who rarely get forward and concentrate on defending.
The midfield are offensive minded and like to get forward at every opportunity. However, due to their high closing down tactics they also provide a very good defensive shield for the back four.
Up front its the classic big man/little man combination. A target man holds the ball up and brings the midfield runners into play, whilst a fast striker uses his movement and pace to play on the shoulder of the last man.
This tactic was created with Derby County, and in my first season I finished 2nd in the championship with 90 points, having signed just 2 players (Sam Sodje on a free and Jim Hamilton for 60k)
The second season (in the Premiership) has seen results improve, and after a opening day defeat at Old Trafford I have gone 11 games unbeaten (won 7 drew 4) to lie in 3rd spot with a game in hand. Memorable results include a 4-3 win at Anfield, and a 4-0 demolition of Blackburn.
I feel the key to this tactic is to have a strong target man who is good in the air, and plenty of pace all around the team. The defenders need to be good man markers and have good levels of concentration and decision making too. The midfield need good energy levels to cope with the forward runs and high closing down, and your fast striker needs to be a good finisher too as most of the chances will fall to him.
Good luck to anyone trying the tactic out, and let me know how you get on. Give it a few games to let your team settle into it, and I am sure it will bring some success. The only tweaks I tend to do are to the striker who holds up the ball (I name him as a target man - but dont tick use target man - and if he has some pace I put him on mixed run with ball) and also the defensive line (if the opposition attack has plenty of pace I drop it a notch or two.
Gary over on FM Britain who is banned on here asked me to pass on his compliments on your tactic, he reckons it's the mutts nuts and is going along very nicely with West Ham

Cheers Swash - pass on my thanks  (we miss characters like him on here )
I'm going to try and have a look at it myself later, as I already use a 4-4-2 with long farrows myself, so I'll be interested to see if I can pinch any ideas from you
By the way, the boys over on FM Britain have suggested that you might want to present your tactic over there as well.

Well it doesn't seem to have gone down too well here so might give it a bash over there
