Default Unbeaten combination of Cleon&wwfan

Hi!

Guess you've all read Cleons "sheffield-project"-thread and wwfans "tactical-frameworks"-thread..?
Well I did and I was really motivated to try both approaches. Somewhere along the line I was never really satisfied with any of the result I obtained, but recently I tried to combine the two ways of playing.

So I used wwfans Rule of One, and his idea aboutgoing way more attacking at home on all positions on the field.

Secondly I used Cleons idea about going opposit of your opponent, both on mentality, passing, tempo, etc.

First I choosed a formation. I picked 4-4-2 diamond, made the individual instructions so they fitted my players (very basic stuff) and went on to INDIVIDUAL mentality.

I made my first frame like this:

Rule of One:
GK:1
DC:2
DR/L:3
DMC:4
MR/L:5
AMC:6
FC:7

...and saved it as "tactic-1"

then I nothed everybody up +1, like this:
GK:2
DC:3
DR/L:4
DMC:5
MR/L:6
AMC:7
FC:8
...and saved it as "tactic-2"

I went on like this all the way up to:

GK:14
DC:15
DR/L:16
DMC:17
MR/L:18
AMC:19
FC:20
..and saved it as "tactic-14".

At all times I never touched team-menatlity. So its allways on "normal"=11, just like wwfan did.

As season started I used Cleons advice on scouting my opponent.

So when they play offensive I choose a tactic between "tactic-1" and "tactic-4" depending on pre-match odds, and home/away scenario.

When they play normal, I choose tactics between "tactic-5" and "tactic-9".

And if they go defensive I choose from "10" to "14"
--------------

The rest all about passing, tempo, backline, width and all that I allso tweak, just like Cleon suggest in his "sheffield" thread.

During a match I tweak it if I dont get any chances, every match I found out theres a perfect counter to your opponent. Sometimes I have to go more attacking than I thought and sometimes its the other way around. It does'nt depend on your players, its all about countering opponent mentality. Of course players mean something, I guess bad players demand that your find the exact counter, and great players make the margin bigger.
But I have certainly tried to loose with superior players, and now I know it was because of mentality probs.
--------------

Like this I went unbeaten for a hole season in serie B with Parma, and I was tipped a middle position at the end.

I've been trying for a while to take the best of the wwfan mentality framework and the Cleon tweak approach. Thank God it can work!

I've had reasonable success so far with something similar, but have nowhere near the amount of mentality settings you do. May have to give that a shot.

Very interesting. Excellent!

I have no idea how strong parma are in serie b but this looks great!

I think this could be a great way to play the game(instead of guess work or dll'ing tactics) and i hope you can help us be giving us more details on the counter you used.

Do you dominate possestion in matches?

No not allways. If my opponent is attacking and playing short in a slow tempo, I dont, but I still win or at least draw.
Especially if Im underdog I go opposit, f.x. defensive, direct, quick, with counter ticked on.

Dont know why but if I hit the exact menatality that counters my opponent no matter how they play, I still get way many more chanves.

F.x. I playd Palermo in the Cup - thay are serie A, but I won 7-0 over two matches and I played defensive in both, cause my scout said they played attacking. I had 20 shots and they had not even half of that.
When I looked at the highlights it looked as if I was the attacking one and not the other way around.

The trick is to finde the exact mentality that suits. Takes me often 2 or 3 tactic changes to find, but I usually find it within 30 min of 1 half.

Actually theres not so many other details than what I already wrote. I do what Cleaons learned us all in his Sheffieldthread, but I do it with the tactics above instead.
Cleon had all his players on same mentality all the time, changing teammentality.
wwfan does the other way. Leaves teamment. but changes individually. As I do as well.

I would love to play the game like this but everytime I try I fail, especially away. I have read both threads.

Do you leave the individual passing unticked and just use Global passing for the whole team?

How do you set the Closing Down?
How do you set the marking (man or zonal)?

I'd be very interested to see a basic screenshot and maybe a quick rn through of what you do after you have read the scouts report for next opposition.

Do you use a target man up front?

I hope there aren't too many questions!

Thanks

Very impressice results there mate  - is there any chance that you could upload this somewhere to help out the needy like me? - I do read the tactical threads, but i just don't get the time to play around with the settings much due to gfx commitments.

I use global passing.

Closing down is difficult to answer cause it depends on the players you have, if they have lots of workrate and stamina, you shoould let them close down as much as possible IMO.

Marking I use zonal, but I allways mark the player(s) my scouts tells me to, I do it before kickoff under opponent instructions, I feel that is the best way. If the player changes position it doesnt matter. If you set a specific defender to mark a specific player you need to watch carefully, cause he might get drawn out of line.

Target man I use sometimes, but not if I get outjumped all the time - watch match-statistics.

Instead of listing what I do I will try to explain what the scouts means.

-Mentality is pretty simple, if they go attacking, you go defensive. The question is...how much, and thats where the key is!! If not working go 1 noth up or down. If improving but no scoring go another notch. If worse, go a notch in the other direction.

-Tempo is the same, they are slow, you go fast.

-They try to "get it down and play it" (short) you go direct. (only if you know you cant beat them on possesion) If they are direct go slow.

-They are good on the ball, means high closing down is more risky.

-They work hard, means they use a lot of closing down.

-Defence could be hard to brake down, means they have good determination, and teamwork in defence. Try more patient build-up, if not working go more direct.

-They have quick forwards, then use deep d-line.

FM07 is about trying. Theres no wondertactics. Theres only tweaking. And I love it !
