Hi!
Guess you've all read Cleons "sheffield-project"-thread and wwfans "tactical-frameworks"-thread..?
Well I did and I was really motivated to try both approaches. Somewhere along the line I was never really satisfied with any of the result I obtained, but recently I tried to combine the two ways of playing.
So I used wwfans Rule of One, and his idea aboutgoing way more attacking at home on all positions on the field.
Secondly I used Cleons idea about going opposit of your opponent, both on mentality, passing, tempo, etc.
First I choosed a formation. I picked 4-4-2 diamond, made the individual instructions so they fitted my players (very basic stuff) and went on to INDIVIDUAL mentality.
I made my first frame like this:
Rule of One:
GK:1
DC:2
DR/L:3
DMC:4
MR/L:5
AMC:6
FC:7
...and saved it as "tactic-1"
then I nothed everybody up +1, like this:
GK:2
DC:3
DR/L:4
DMC:5
MR/L:6
AMC:7
FC:8
...and saved it as "tactic-2"
I went on like this all the way up to:
GK:14
DC:15
DR/L:16
DMC:17
MR/L:18
AMC:19
FC:20
..and saved it as "tactic-14".
At all times I never touched team-menatlity. So its allways on "normal"=11, just like wwfan did.
As season started I used Cleons advice on scouting my opponent.
So when they play offensive I choose a tactic between "tactic-1" and "tactic-4" depending on pre-match odds, and home/away scenario.
When they play normal, I choose tactics between "tactic-5" and "tactic-9".
And if they go defensive I choose from "10" to "14"
--------------
The rest all about passing, tempo, backline, width and all that I allso tweak, just like Cleon suggest in his "sheffield" thread.
During a match I tweak it if I dont get any chances, every match I found out theres a perfect counter to your opponent. Sometimes I have to go more attacking than I thought and sometimes its the other way around. It does'nt depend on your players, its all about countering opponent mentality. Of course players mean something, I guess bad players demand that your find the exact counter, and great players make the margin bigger.
But I have certainly tried to loose with superior players, and now I know it was because of mentality probs.

Like this I went unbeaten for a hole season in serie B with Parma, and I was tipped a middle position at the end.
