I'm keen to use a sweeper in my formations. The problem is the only formation I see the sweeper in is the 532 counter. This gives me a few headaches a) I don't have any really decent WB's (playing Rovers so I have Emerton and that's about it) b) 532 doesn't use wide players which limits my use of Pedersen and finally 3) I have a great am in Anderson who again is no use 532. SO can anyone suggestion a formation that alows a sweeper widemen and an attacking midfielder.

i started a game in South Korea and since i had loooooads of wing backs, i thought it'd be suitable to try a 5-3-2, althought i havnt tested it with other teams yet

best thing to do is have 2 MC's and an AM in midfield, with one MC being purely defensive and the other a bit of a link up man. also have the wing backs arrows up to the AM position. i set the AM as playmaker and ticked 'use playmaker' to make sure he got involved. my WB's werent very good on the ball so i had run with ball on mixed, but ideally id want this on often so that they do more with the ball

i think this formation relies on the DC's cus if theyre playing well, the opposition basically has no chances and you control the posession. if theyre playing bad, then you really do get slaughtered cus theyre all over the place! i tend to have the 2 DC's on man marking and have slightly higher closing down than i normally use (still below mixed tho), and i keep the SW with minimal closing down on zonal marking, purely there to sweep everythin up (how suprising!)

i guess thats all i can say really. like i said, i havnt really tested this formation out so i dont know how it'd work in different leagues and with different players

Thanks for the input Dave some really good advice. Seems if I want to play a sweeper I have to sacrifice using my wingers which means not using Petersen hmmm don't really want to do that shame there isn't a way to spread the midfield out but I guess that would leave to many gaps in middle then. May try and train Petersen as a wingback then lol.

yeah you do lose the wingers, but you have a lot of passing options in the middle third of the pitch. i think thats why its better to have an AM as he is the one who can create the goals, rather than having a flat 3 midfield. and this allows the forwards to get in the box more rather than hold up the ball
