Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default FM08 Tactics for Division two

Been playing CM/FM for many years but 2008 is very hard indeed. Managing Notts County in first season and just wonder what would be a a useful and reasonably successful tactic. Playing 4-4-2 with two attacking wingers and one big one small up front.

Is it really only the long ball?

I'm finding it difficult to in the same league.

I keep coming on here to read up but most decent tactics you have to download.

Any chance of some screenshots of successful tactics and formations please?

I have played this game for years, but just can't get into this version so i'm hoping for help from you guys on here.

I'm playing as Bournemouth which obviously is a league higher but I guess similar principles will apply. What I find is that the AI will play a 451 formation away from home and hope to hit me on the break.

Initially I thought the key was to play a very direct style with a very attacking mentality. However, this just led to the AI dominating possession in most games and winning easily.

My reaction was to play with a much more defensive mentality with short to mixed passing and slowish tempo. The result is that I am now gaining about 60% possession in home matches and by allowing a bit of creative feedom to my best players such as Anderton we are creating a lot of chances too.

I've not figured out playing away quite so effectively yet but I think its a case of trial and error until you find a system that works.

I'm struggling with conference right now. I can have most of the possesion easily if I want, but I just can't cut it. Sometimes my players arent even getting a shot on goal and I'm in loss what is wrong. With slower tempo and short passing, I could have possesion but no chances, even if I have strikers above standards of conference. I'm now going to try most of my players long ( 20) passing and see how it goes... my midfield is ok on passing side though, players skill vary from 12 to 14...
