Either the reserve sides of other teams are pish or we do have quite more potential than I thought in our ranks.

Strikeforce (19 yo N.Irish ST, 21 yo Welsh AM/FC and AMC) has been injured for 5 weeks now, but their understudies are doing us proud. We're at spitting distance of pace setter Sunderland and our reserves have just orchestated a 6-1 demolition of Mid-Premiership Leeds United in the League Cup. The aforementioned reserves are also performing well in the FA Cup, though the results are not as spectacular.

To celebrate this I've just indulged myself into signing the latest recommendation from my youth scout: a 15 yo N.Irish FC who is certainly one to follow for the future, he says. Seeing how well the youths spotted by him have developed I'm more than happy to reach an agreement for a £50k fee paid to Cobh Ramblers, who by now look like the Official Workington Feeder Club: 3 players signed in the past 3 seasons and 3 more on the books who are certain targets.

Another promotion could be in the horizon if we manage to perform well against the big guns at our place in the second half of the season.

Following our tradition, we sacrificed another lamb to appease the Gods on the very last minute of the summer transfer window. This time it was the snailish AMC. He wanted 5x my allowed wages and I was unsure if his lack of pace would let him shine in the Championship. £1.2m upfront + £800k in 12 months + 25% of next sale.

Why don't you swap 1st team and reserves?

If I was to be told Workington would be 2nd (and already promoted) with only two matches to end the season, only one point behind the leaders and that they would reach the League Cup final and bow out honourably (0-1) to Arsenal I would have laughed at whomever said this.

And if this same someone told me we would be in the FA Cup semis against Arsenal (yet to be played) I would really have called the doctors inmediately to lock this person in a madhouse.

Yet, this is what has happened

I must say I'm most happy about the first team and the reserves and how they are improving. It only needs to be said that I only deem necessary getting a decent rightback for the next season, that's how well the players are shaping up.

I'm desperately trying to renew the N.Irish 19 yo striker's contract and I think we'll reach an agreement. It must be said the lad's already a legend at Workington. He has 'only' scored 15 goals in the league, but his 13 goals in the Cups as supersub have been pivotal to our magnificent run.

The board have graciously given green light to my petition of a £120k/week wages bill for next season, so we have a £70k/week space to renew the contracts of the current lot and attract the new, much coveted rightback.

T'is done: 2-3 aet :*)

A pity, as when the N.Irish lad scored the 2-1 in minute 109 I thought we had done it, but Arsenal's World Class 23 yo French AM/F RC (it is curious seeing they have 6 class French regens) decided enough was enough and ran havok in the heart of our decimated through injuries defense.

Arsenal later put the icing on a magnificent 2019 season: Charity Shield, LC, FA CUP, EPL and CL.

After the FA CUP semis, Leeds, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelski's scouts are seen in Workington's training ground and in the following matches.

As it usually happens after a defeat to a superior team, the team was so depressed we couldn't win next match (5-6 loss), but we duly tried our best on the last day and got a 5-0 win to end the season with 101 points and 103 GF.

Roll on next season!
