The importance of having a decent (though not quite the obvious choice) captain:
Joe Leg'O Breaker has 25 years. He has been at the club for some 7 seasons and performed on a constant basis in the first team for the last 5 seasons. He holds the team most league matches played ever record and hasn't got any problems in the main mental areas recquired for leadership. He is quite respected by fellow teammates and even some young players in the U18s think he organises the defense well.
Paddy Anchormen is 18 years old. He joined the club last season and was instrumental to link the defensive side of our team with the creative people. He is highly enthusiastic and quite optimistic. He might as well be our best prospect and a player who could well be playing League 1 football instead of non-league one.
Anders Cantplayninetyminutesen is a recently joined player whose experience and creativity are an asset to the team. He also has earnt his coaching badges at 34 and joined us because he fancied a taste of the transmitting his experience to the younger lads thing. Despite him being more quiet than the aforementioned blokes he has a knack for motivating his peers.
So, who should be my captain?
FM chooses Paddy, but he's not ready for the burden as he's too young to be really respected amongst some of the eldest here.
I should choose Joe if I went by last FMs experiences as he has every stat needed to be a decent captain (except one).
But whenever I choose Anders the team plays lots better and our attitude and confidence is always the right one.
This being said, season is going better than expected and we find ourselves in the lower echelons of the playoff zone with half the season gone (Though Carlisle seem to be playing with God_mode_on this season).
I'd go with the first bloke. Like Stan said, the second bloke's too young, and rule out Anders if he can't play ninety minutes like you've hinted. I've always avoided changing my Captain mid-game, just like I avoid changing goalkeepers mid-game at all costs. That's just my superstitious way, anyway.
Like Michal, I've had youngsters perform really well as captain and give a massive boost to the team. I've also had youngsters who bottled it and played like turds the moment they're given the armband.
It's such an inexact science, though, that I usually just field the best team I can and hope that whoever captains the team doesn't do too bad a job.
The natural thing is to have an older and wiser and more experienced captain, but FM seems to focus more on attributes, so then kids can do quite well as captains too. I'd probably go for the first guy.
