Hello everyone. A few months ago I asked information about Nationwide north/south to take accurately my decision about get a team - see http://community.sigames.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5421921...19056%26f%3D54219217
I finally chose Maidenhead United, founded at 1870, one of the founders of FA Cup, and still playing in the same ground of two centuries ago! Now I have played three seasons, I post here my progress, following LLM rules of playing and posting. My plan is to play the same team until sacked.
First season: 2005/2006
-----------------------
We were relegattion battlers, board and fans simply asked to battle bravely against relegation... and at least by finances, that was the realist objective. With no money for transfers and very few for wages, at least we weren't the only semi-professional club: in fact only Weymouth was considered as professional, with his players playing in full time. I made a few free signing and loans - some of them very important.
The team was good at home and with more problems away: we were very offensive and we get almost as goals as we made - that is, much! The power of our atttack made us not pass too problems to avoid relegation. We even beated Weymouth 3-1 after being losing 0-1 at half time - being even leaders a few days! We were several weeks second only after these professionals.
However, the deffensive fragility was too high to think in more than avoid promotion. We had playoff possibilities (5th position) until the 40th of 42 matches, but we get a ten matches row without winning, including 3 lost in a row, and that ruined promotion possibilities. In March, Weymouth did us in his home a 7-2, by the way.
As for the cups... well, fall in the second (Cup) and first (Trophy) match against non-leaguers is simply embarrasing. But having count of the premises, a good season all in all.
The season in facts:
Nationwide South -> 10th
FA Cup -> 3rd Qual. round
FA Trophy -> 2nd Qual. round
Second season: 2006/2007
------------------------
Media, board and fans agreed - relegation battlers again. But we have refroced our squad, nad given our past 10th position I thought we could even battle for qualifying at playoffs.
However, I had done a great error to this season - when I was asked by board with different money previsions for signings and wages, I chose the more for signings and the less for wages. Of course, the money for signings was unused - players good enough to spend the money didn't want to sign for the team, or wanted more wages. I decided that in the future, I always would choose more money for wages - at least while I had to live with free transfers.
The squad was good and so it worked - although we conceded more goals, we were an even greater attacking machine. We were always rounding between 6th and 10th, but the first months of 2007 brought a bad row of results. In April we get a row of wins that brought us in last match of the league being sixth. We could finish 5th (playoffs) depending on other results. We made our job - the others too. Sixth position, only to a point from playoffs.
Cups? A sligth improvement, until nothing impressive. A good season, although it had a bad taste for almost touching the playoffs and not achieving it.
The season in facts:
Nationwide South -> 6th
FA Cup -> 2nd Qual. round
FA Trophy -> 1st round
Third season: 2007/2008
------------------------
This season board asked me to stay clear of relegation - but I know we could get much more. The squad was basically the same, but I had reforced key positions that previously were patched by loans. Significatively, only a long loan: although it was a first team regular, and so I get his free transfer arranged for end of season (to avoid paying wages until then - I always tried that loans were without paying nothing of wages).
Although it wasn't deliberate, I realised that I had been doing my squad very young with a few veterans. It was logical - I seeked quality, and at this level it has to be or veterans too old to play at highest level, or younglings not enough grown to triomph at the highest level. What was deliberated was my attempt to make full time contracts when the player agreeded with that - professionalism is the way to success.
Curiosly, we would not play Nationwide South, we would play Nationwide North - promotions and descents made us more north that south of England I suppose, although the federation didn't say nothing.
The news not were that we were the attacking machine - it was that we get more security at defence. We were not only most scorers as in previous years - we were less conceded goals.
At 27th, we were saved. At 33th we were at playoffs. At 35th... we were champions! We made an outstanding season, being first for all the season, finishing with 99 points, but would be this enough for Conference? I said yes to press, and I really didn't think to touch too the squad - but time will tell...
...and yes, we have to improve in cups.
The season in facts:
Nationwide North -> 1st
FA Cup -> 4th. Rnd Qual.
FA Trophy -> 2nd Qual. Rnd.

Didn't know the game did that. Cool.
Before I say KUTGW, I just want to ask - Can we assume there was no use of the Spawn of Satan in your game?

No use of it. I've made this game following the LLM rules as I said, and honestly, I don't see the point to put all my players as gods of football, or know who has a good potential if it's supposed you can't. Of course I would win, but playing in the right way, you know you deserve your triomphs (and defeats).
However, yes in other games: I always play Barça in each version, being a fan, and in those circumstances I touch players to adjust to my knowledge of them - doing them adjusted to reality, worse or better. But that's my imprescindible Barça play, not a LLM play - and I just can't play with some players knowing perfectly them and knowing they are different from exposed. I don't see it as cheat, but I also would not do in a "public" game like this, to try keep the game equal to everyone.

It happens in all the nations with regional leagues, as some get moved due to promotions and relegations etc. It can get very silly after a few seasons though.

But I understand the db contains geographical information on each club / ground so the information is there, it's just a case now of it's implementation.
