re my other post, I've now restarted the game as the manager of Nuneaton - (thought about Hinckley too, but I've never liked that place :p ).

So, anyway, I read through the LLM rules etc. and have then been sitting in front of the game feeling far more restricted than I thought or expected to be...

Ok, so I have a small transfer budget available, and some room in the wage budget, so thats a good start...

Ah - here's why - the team dosen't have many players - in fact if I get any injuries, I'm in trouble... So I check the reserve/under 18 squads, and have no white players in them at all - so I don't have anyone else who can fill in for the full team, since it dosen't appear I can transfer grey player into the full squad - this is the first BIG limitation in my book...

Hmm - next I check the staff - assistant, 2 coaches, 1 physio and scout... The assistant seems to be ok, and so is one of the coaches - but the other one is junk, even for LLM, so I put an advert in the job centre for coaches and scouts, since I'll need at least one more so I can scout both opposition and players...

Now, here's where I pretty much run into a brick wall... I NEED, (as in absolutely have-to-have) some more players (of any kind/ability/position (except for GK)... At this point it dosen't matter who they are or anything like that. If this was real life, it'd be a case of the OBN, (old-boy network), just ringing round seeing if anyone happens to be free and looking for club locally, or similar. Basically, an equivalent of the job centre, but for players... Unfortunately this game dosen't have that - all it has is the full-on no-holds-barred search system, which to me is a little too much to be counted as 'realistic' for the LLM rules. Unfortuantely, aswell, scouting dosen't have the required options to cover this either - since the players you scout will always be employed/playing etc.. Basically, all I can do is use the search function for english players available on free-transfer, but it still dosen't feel 'right' to me, even if I scout them first...

Like I said - it could really do with an equivalent of the job board for players for LL clubs - it would feel more realistic (to me) if done that way...

Anyway - just my ideas/impressions...

but you can sign your greys up in FM2006.

How does somebody new to the footballing world have an 'old boy network'? Who on earth would you know as a rookie?

How many players are in your squad?

As Lukewarm said, you can sign your greys if you wish.

The job centre doesn't work very well, so if you don't get any joy it's ok to use the Staff Search function (for realism, try to limit the search to staff who speak English and whose reputation is no higher than you/your club).

If you send your scouts out on regional/national missions they will report on out of contract players, so there's no need to use the player search.

As for the OBN - well - I have a staff who will know stuff - and a LOT of players who are old and have obviously been around etc. - yes, I'm a newbie, but half of the job atm will be getting to know everyone etc.. I just have enough players to make a full squad with 5 subs atm, with 2 of those subs being GK's...

I just played the first friendly against dover, and they were almost dead by the end of the game, since I didn't have many people on teh bench suitable to replace those which needed it...

The biggest problem I have with the squad is that I can't afford to sell anyone atm since it's so small, but four of the squad are being paid far more than they're worth IMO :-/ (£400+). (I had better players for less in my last game as lincoln, and that was without me buying any). And, as I'm realising - the gap in the wage budget isn't actually all that great - (about £150)...

I think I've definitely been thrown in at the deep-end here...

Can you get relagated fromt eh lowest league? lol. I think it'll take hald the season to get the sqad sorted out, and they badly need a 'decent' fitness coach - I just hope one answers the ad, lol

Yes, you can get relegated, but as the leagues below aren't playable, you'll also be sacked

The struggle is what it's all about. Keep strong and don't succumb to player search or any other nasties. Sign some greys to fill your squad

If you get relegated you will get sacked.

You probably do need a good fitness coach, we all do. I need a new physio, I think. My star striker was out for 4 months with a calf strain FFS

If you've got a huge db your scout should turn up some freebies soon enough.

Should be absolutely fine. I've got by plenty of times with a smaller database.
