Here's the thing, fugazi. How do you know if a player is good or not simply by looking at his name?
The first thing you'll do, while looking at a list produced by the search, is look at players' profiles. From there, you'll look at any possibly unhidden attributes. If there are any that aren't hidden, it would mean that you've scouted or played against them before. This won't happen at the beginning of a game, and who signs a player without knowing if he's any good first? (If you have an answer for that, how many of those players turned out to be regulars, or even play?)
So, the only way that we find acceptable is how mkus just described it.

Very valid point Guinness - and as I did say I wasn't disagreeing with the rule, was just enquiring about it. Thanks a lot for clearing it up for me.
Oh - who signs a player without knowing if he's any good first?? Well how about an ex-Liverpool midfielder who managed to buy his way to success at a couple of clubs before jumping ship like the proverbial rat, who buys really good (honest guv he's brilliant....) players for Southampton.
Thus proving your point to the tee! |

Well - I think it's official - this game is no longer liking me... I've now got 6 injured players out, (and one suspension atm) and have been nleeding cash for the first few months without seeing how I can improve the situation - the attendaces for the games just arnt' anywhere near enough to compensate for the wages - even if I got rid of all my high-paid players it would only halve the deficit :-/ I don't even know if this club is a viable operation to begin with...
What the hell am I supposed to do now? lol. When I was managing lincoln before, the attendances were always enough to keep the wages in budget - this time though it dosen't appear to be the case - so to me the budget is a lie to begin with...
I'm about ready to give up with this club and try another - I just don't see a way out - is there one?

Although it's irrelevant to LLM in FM2006 as there's no credible way of working an "old boys network" without using player search which is a no-no. FM2007 should improve this.
| I hate the sound of that, the general tone of it, Matt...
How so...how will one be able to start off an "old boys' network"?

Well it could be taken as you may have a good relationship with an ex-manager or teammate of yours, so maybe be able to go to him to loan some youngsters? Bit far-fetched unless you somehow name an ex-manager etc. All a bit convoluted really....

Thank you very much for that very insightful reply, fugazi, but it doesn't really help my ire.
I need an Eidos/SI reply as it looks very much as if LLM is being diluted with "feeder clubs" and "old boys' networks" |

Keill, any true LLaMa never quits. If you are a beginner, perhaps you can start with some easier lowest division club, to get a feel of the game and the way it is played in. Perhaps even try some other country with less divisions.

Not so much insightful Ian as a complete shot in the dark, just thinking of ways that some of the ideas could be explained away. I know the game has to be kept fresh otherwise it just becomes basically an over-priced patch, but sometimes I wish that there were fewer "new features" and maybe just implement fewer of them better. Just off the top off my head for example making the media sections of the game more in-depth as manager-player relationships are more important than club-club IMO. I've been playing FM since Championship Manager 2 (what you mean you can play in England OR in Scotland... there's over 4000 players?? OMG!!!) but the one thing that's always kept calling me back is that even with all the new features it hasn't really been "gimmicky". Feeder clubs DO exist, but not really to the extent that it's being played upon (at least not in the country) I'm a Wrexham fan, and we do have very good relationships with two Premiership teams, one certainly through old-boys network (one of our midfielders dad being a manager of them certainly helps) and another due to them using our ground for reserve matches, but it's not as if there is an agreement with them that we take masses of their youngsters on loan or that they buy our up-and-coming players (anyone who says that's because we haven't got any can speak to my Southern League Bear after this rant). But that's only one example - I can't really think of any more (feel free to prove me wrong on that score though.)
I'm with you on this one Ian, I'm beginning to worry that the game is going to become less realistic for lower league, to the point that you can just get yourself signed up to be the feeder club for a rich Russian team (oops I mean Chelski.. Dammit I mean Chelsea), get half of their team on loan and be joining them in the Premiership in 6 years...
