I am curious how the rest of you feel about Players/Coaches recommending other Players as signings. Now if this is considered ok for Llmas to do we would obviously then scout whatever player are recommended to us. But lets face it if you ask your entire squad for ideas to players to sign it could almost take over from your normal methods of scouting, where you send him out and see what he comes back with. I haven’t tried it but what is my spotty faced 15 years old YTS boy going to recommend to me? Another 15 year old or some 30 somthing year old that has been playing for more years than the kid has been alive?
I think it'll be down to your judgement as a manager - if you're dopey enough to ask a 15 year old for suggestions...
Because it happens in RL then it's a good thing, IMO, that it's in the game. Thinking about it as a real-life manager would, I can't see a problem with, say, asking your experienced DC, who's been at some higher level clubs, or has just been around, for advice on players. I just hope that the 'system' SI use for this aspect takes into account the knowledge and (in)experience of the player/staff asked.
I've not tried a game in the lower leagues yet - will have to see what happens with your 15 year old scenario.
He'll either recomend his friend who knows nothing about football so thay can play marbles together or he will pick out some absolute Gem that a 15 year old really shouldn't know about.
I really do hope it is the former!
I haven't tried it yet but suppose I ask my striker for a player and then a month or so later i ask him again will he recomend the same player (If I haven;t bought him) or will he keep giving e decent players?
Matt do you know is there a down side to asking players coaches to recomend players?
I was thinking that asking him once might boost his confidence asking him several times might make him think that his manager is clueless.
I think this should be used with moderation. Like Elrawkum said, you aren't going to ask for hiring suggestions for a 16 year old.
In fact, the only situation in which I think I'll use this is when, after hiring a player that's supposed to be a key player for the squad, he's underperforming.
And what you said about the player thinking he's doing the scout's job.
I might ask my 16 years olds just for a laugh but they probably wont recommend anyone maybe a couple of legends or players in the town they come from but on a serious note I probably will ask veterans they will probably know there stuff
Players will come back to you with "no recommendation." I had that response several times, but you have to think of the reality of asking a 15 year-old for his suggestion. Would a manager do such a thing?
And of course, you'd still have to scout the player.
