OK. I've found my forum. I've been playing FM for a few years now (since FM05), have not been a poster on the boards until this recent demo came out. I've been reading the boards for the entire time, but never posting because I play the game for me- not for some jackass 15 year old to tell me I stink at it.
So for some reason, I never looked at LLM. Now- I am kicking myself in the arse for it. I'm a relatively new football fan- I'm from USA, originally Boston, now Seattle. Having made a decision recently to throw myself headfirst into EPL football (Tottenham- I'm ashamed to admit for no other reason than I have a connection to ESPN's SportsGuy, who chose them randomly... I figured at least someone else I know would be a fan), I am a noob in the world of football.
So I'm learning about rules regarding transfers, competitions etc on the fly. I still don't have a full grasp of how a few of the domestic cups work, but I'm a quick study. So if I ask some dumb questions every now and then, understand while I'm 27yo, in terms of football I'm more like your 10yo nephew (I hope- maybe 8yo).
I'm making the decision now to no longer post in any other area than LLM. I'll admit I've played with editors and scouts- and have come to find that they add nothing and take away a ton from the game. I get bored quicker, and never like those games in which I 'cheat'. Also, I suspect some of the sites in which I go to get the editors and scouts have given me fits with pop-ups and wares.
Anywho. Like I said, I've been playing FM for a few years though I haven't followed football much until this season- I watch every English game that Fox Soccer Channel shows... I'm getting there.
I'm looking forward to getting FM07 and starting a LLM career and hopefully hearing more from you guys.
I understand, appreciate and will follow all the rules on posting here- cross my heart and hope to die!
Mister Flea- love your Eastleigh career. If it wouldn't upset you greatly, I'd like to borrow your format for posts when I get going.
So- my first question to all of you... is there anywhere in these boards or online a sort of 'English Football Leagues for Dummies' which will explain the leagues, promotion/relegation guidlines, Domestic Cups and European competitions...
I've been kind of finding out these things as I go, it'd be nice to know these things ahead of time- i.e. what place I need to get promoted or avoid to get relegated...
Any help you can give me would be great.
Oh- one more thing... I'd like to pick a team soon so I can get a feel for the history of the club, the city, fans (in real life- it gives me a 'connected' feeling that helps me stay interested).
My instinct was to pick Boston Utd, being from Boston, MA (USA) originally... thought it would be fun- but they are League 2... Would this be considered a 'no-no' for LLM? If it is a no-no, I'll go ahead and find another team in Conference.
Hey there Pleming,
As a fellow Yank, I should let you know that no tipping of any kind goes on in these forums.
To avoid relegation, all I can say is to not finish in the bottom 3 spots, but relegation is a way of life for LLaMa.
Boston Utd, being league 2 is to high, you really want to go for a conference North or South (they are the league below conf. national) team for true LLaMa experience.
As far as tips, tactis, and other goings on, you'll not find them here. I figured I would try and fill you in on the rules before the regulars got to you.
Most importantly is have fun and play your way,
but only tell us after you've finished 3 season.
Oh, and Cup sucks Arse ( at least that's what most will say, I like them).
Have a nice cup of Arabica coffee for me... and enjoy.
It's generally accepted around here that we start in the lowest playable league in the selected country. With the demo, it's Conference National, not North/South like ArgyleMan just said. Granted, jumping in at the deep end is never the most enjoyable experience.
To try and make this a bit more positive than the last post, all you really need to know is win every match that you're scheduled to play.
The league table will tell you where the promotion and relegation spots are (save for Belgium and the Netherlands), you'll find out when you're drawn into domestic cups (You're possibly eligible for two in the English Lower Leagues, the names of the minor cups escape me, but there's the FA Cup, of course) and as for Europe, that's not something you'll have to worry about for a few years, and those parameters change all the time, depending on the results of the results of the competition with regards to clubs in your country.
Cups DO suck arse, however. Just ask iajafer.
From your post, it seems like you don't need the handholding that most new posters do, so enjoy!
Sounds like he's read the header etc, eh, ArgyleMan
The SUCK ARSE TROPHY() is the other one you're thinking of, Doug. And yes, it sucks arse.
Hope you stick at it, yankpoof. If you're ever getting down on FM (unlikely playing LLM ) just come in here and read some yarns, have a whinge and you'll be right back into it. Good Luck.
In England (I don't know the exact colours: sorry) the top few in a league table that are in dark green are automatic promotion spots - if you finish the league here, you'll get promoted to the next league.
The ones underneath that (the next four) are play-off spots. If you finish in these spots, you will play in a cup competion, where the top play-off spot plays the bottom play-off spot and the two middle spots play each other. The winners of these two games meet in a play-off final, and the winner of this match gets promoted.
The ones at the bottom of the league in red are relegation spots. If you finish here, you will be relegated. (If you are playing in the Conference North or South, a relegation will mean that you get automatically sacked because FM doesn't let you play in any division lower than Conference North/South)
Conference North and South are on the same level - ie. both leagues provide teams to be promoted into the Conference National.
In the game when you look up the table you can see the rules section of the league you are in, I think this is through a drop down you access omn the upper right hand side of the screen, this gives you info on promotion and relegation and also info on player eligibility as some lower leagues have nationality and age restrictions.
Thanks for the welcome guys... I'm gonna have to get used to the time difference from England to Seattle. I went to bed and woke up to a half dozen replies...
I'll take a look at some Conference North/South teams and find one that agrees with me.
I do have a geography/borders question- and pardon my ignorance...
Why do England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own National squads and leagues... Why not Great Britain, and merge things? My instinct says tradition, history etc. etc., however I'm curious as to the actual reason. Seems to me Britain would win a few more International games than England.
As I'm typing this, I'm realizing that I may be awaking some sleeping giants here. I don't mean to offend anyone who is from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland who fiercly defend their team. Nor would I wish to tick off any England fan who feels they don't need to have those other nations players... It's just a question I've had for a while.
