Sorry James, I must have gone to bed soon after you posted.
A small team can make big money from Cups, of that there's no doubt - I'll give you that.
However, I must have played literally over a hundred seasons in the Conference and Division 3 and have drawn ManUre away three times (they're the golden egg, right?). I must have done equally as many seasons in the Scottish League (money's really tight in Scotland) and have drawn Rangers away twice and never drawn Celtic at Celtic Park).
Conversely I've lost countless players for our next League game through injury or pure lack of fitness, on the occasion you do manage to beat Coventry at Highfield Road the AI punishes you for several games after it.
I've mentioned the figures before, but I'll do it again.
Before ManUre enter the FA Cup in the 3rd round there's been the potential of 6 cup ties, including replays, before you get to the draw (don't know about you but I seem to be guaranteed quite a few replays in the FA Cup)
There's 64 Clubs in the 3rd round draw, each of which can draw to play either home or away (obviously your Club doesn't count) so you're looking for one specific draw (ManUre at Old Trafford) for your fiscal gamble to pay off, that's a 126/1 shot.
The odds get better in the 4th round (potentially 8 games played now) where you have a 62/1 shot of drawing them away
5th round 30/1, 14/1 for the 6th, hell it's only when you get to the semi final that the odds are worth it, and then you want to miss them for the final where you'll be guaranteed a European place.
Promotion every time, that's where the increase in reputation, and eventually money, lies.
Cups, irrefutably, suck @ss so hard they could produce the vacuum needed to empty Lake Windermere.

| It still happens in FM06 Hogie. I'm managing Alfreton at the moment (Barrow gave me the boot), and with no decent players to sell and an overdraft hovering around the £400,000 mark, I was getting a bit worried. Then we get drawn away to Derby in the second round of the FA Cup, and we're suddenly £200,000 better off |

I'll say it again if I said it a hundred times: not playing your best team in cups is not in the LLM spirit. So: you may think cups such arse, but don't let me catch you playing the reserves against ManU |

Still, I double dare you to name one LL team that threw away a game against notable opposition by playing their second choice.
Don't you think this rule exists in case Chelski decide their third team is good enough against Church-upon-River Utd?
