Default Wake the dead, they've come for the bell

Well, I thought, let's give it a go at one of those updates.
Loaded all England leagues plus the premier leagues of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Portugal, Scotland, and Spain (what can I say, I do have some ambitions to end this save as a European Great One )

2005/2006 St. Albans City, Conference South

Board expectations: Stay clear of relegation.
Bank Balance: £22k; transfer kitty: £0k
Players in: 7 for £0k; players out: 4 for £3k

Season started awfully, 10 matches without a win. With the arrival of a new DMC and an AM/FC things started to fall in place and we had a couple of good runs. We even managed to scrape through a spell with 7 injuries, including 4 central midfielders without losing too many points. Two matches before the end we were in contention for play-offs, but losing both meant we ended the season as 8th (46 points behind runaway champions Weymouth!).

Pos 8th , W18, D9, L15, F52, A42, pts 63.

Cups sucked ass, going out at every first (participating) round.

Player of the year went to the top-scoring AM/FC: 13 in 26 matches. Honourable mention to my young goalie who managed to keep 17 clean sheets.

England won the World Cup with a 2-1 win over Spain.

2006/2007 St. Albans City, Conference South

Board expectations: safe mid-table position
Bank Balance: £-38k; transfer kitty: £2k
Players in: 6 for £1k; players out: 4 for £24k

With finances deteriorating, we got rid of some the older, expensive players and focused on bringing in young ‘talent’. We started the season inconsistently, but a long good run saw us top the table in January. Again, from november until march we had to cope with a full infirmary (constantly filled with 5-9 players). Because of a four month absence of both my DMC and topscoring AM/FC, a stop-gap loanee striker had the chance to shine: he bagged in 17 goals in 21 matches. Some erratic performances made us drop a few positions, but we ended the season on a neat 2nd place, 6 points behind champions Dorchester.

Pos 2nd, W20, D12, L10, F60, A47, 72 points

We won 2-1 on aggregate from Newport County to reach the play-off final against Lewes. The final went to penalties after ‘a breathtaking’ but goalless display over 120 minutes, which we won 3-2!!
Conference national, here we come!!

Managed to survive one round in the FA cup, took three rounds to get kicked out of the FA trophy.

Tall striker, topscorer this season (19 goals in 35 matches) was chosen as player of the year.

2007/2008 St. Albans City, Conference National

Board expectations: fight bravely against relegation
Bank Balance: £110k; transfer kitty: £10k
Players in: 6 for £18k; players out: 5 for £0k

The Conference TV money made an end to the financial troubles, but the sporting troubles just began.
Expectations were to fight against relegation, and we did, all season long we spent between 20th –24th. A new French defender (signed in January from Watford) helped to shore up our defence, but we still leaked too many goals. Eventually we fought ourselves to an 18th place, jumping from 20th to 18th spot on the last day of the season, and managed to avoid relegation.

Pos 18th, W11, D14, L21, F54, A72, 47points.

Reached the 2nd round of the FA cup, for a nice bit of cash; only played once in the FA trophy.

A newly signed enthousiastic SC bagged in 24 goals and was voted player of the year.

Portugal won the European Championship on penalties against England after a 0-0 draw.

2008/2009 St. Albans City, Conference National

Board expectations: fight bravely against relegation
Bank Balance: £193k; transfer kitty: £18k
Players in: 6 for £2k; players out: 6 for £0k

With another 100k from TV money and a new 3 year-sponsorship with a local company for 18k per year we started to build a fulltime professional club, negotiating fulltime contracts with a core of key players.
Strenghtened the defence with 5 new players, and bought a new striker.
A run of draws later turned into a run of wins, and we were in a neat 10th place halfway through the season.
Again a massive injury wave saw us lose players and points over the winter.
With a fit squad from March on we were able to end the season in a nice good run (got my first award, 2nd place in March!), ending in a safe midtable position.

Pos 13th, W15, D16, L15, F59, A68, 61 points.

Went out in the 1st round of the FA cup and the 2nd round of the FA trophy.

Enthousiastic striker again was both topscorer (17 goals) and player the year.

Well, there's a book called 'The Three Musketeers' but it stars four musketeers as well.

Misinterpreted classic shocker!

D'Artagnan wasn't a musketeer until right at the end of the book. So it was about three musketeers and a musketeer wannabe. I don't blame you for not having read it though - it is a bit of a pig to wade through.

You've waded through a pig? Now I understand how RSPCA cases have increased by 77% this year.

Many, many times. Ah, sweet memories.

Oh and KUTGW Meneltin - Good luck with getting out of the Conference. It'll be sweet if/when you do.
