If that Sony rule is true, the only patching that I can see ever happening is an unofficial patch of an iso dump of the game. This is illegal though and will probably never happen.
I wonder why Sony is against patching though? Surely it would result in games improving, and more people buying them?
I agree patching is the way to go, it works for the pc games, cant see why it cant work for psp. However i dont blame SI if sony dont make it possible.
If I'm not mistaken, patching the PSP version would be more difficult because none of the games code is stored off the game disc unlike the PC version where, once the game has been installed onto your hard disk, the cd is only there to verify the game is legal. I think for the patch to work it would have to sit on the memory stick but tell the game to access the new code from the stick not read the UMD.
they arent patches though, theyre bonus content. A patch fixes a probalem in the game whereas bonus content adds another variable ie. ships and tracks in wipeout
