Just want to pick peoples brains regarding transfers on FM2008, to see whether im doing something wrong or ive found a bug or whatever.
Im currently in my 2nd season at Bayern Munich. During the mid season transfer window I agreed to buy Huntelaar from Ajax for £12.75m but not immediately, end of the German season.
Ajax agreed and the funds were taken immediately (which I thought was a bit bizarre but anyway). This left me with approx £5m left in the kitty. At the end of the season I had the same amount left in the kitty.
During the period between the final kick of the first season, and the team going away on holiday, I sold Sosa for near enough £5m which left just over £10m in the kitty.
Then Bayern came to me a couple of weeks before the second season started, stating I was to be given £25m transfer funds, which I thouth was great. However when I was able to buy players again, the kitty showed just over £11m!?! Between the 'war chest' (sorry) being announced and me discovering the paltry £11m, Huntelaar officially arrived at the club.
Now I dont know whether its a bug in the game and ive paid for Huntelaar twice, or the budget has just not been increased, and this is a bug?? Whichever it is it left me scrimping and scraping having to sell players I could have kept for another season or so.
Has this happened to anybody else?
Does anybody know what has happened in this case? (Idiotic answers aside).
A couple of other things...
Has anybody else found there is a HUGE gap between scouts belief that a player "would be extremely interested in joining..." your club, instead finding he has "No intention."? Im finding this a more than regular occurance.
Lastly...
during pre-season (2nd season) I tried to sign Saivet from Bordeaux and agreed a price. He came over for talks asking for pittance basically, so I gave him what he wanted, only to be told he had signed an extension on his Bordeaux contract. Fair enough. But I went back just to try again, and what would you know, he had what I thought was the same contract!?! So I agreed the same price with Bordeaux and offered him an improvement on what he was asking for, yet EXACTLY the same thing happened, but check his details at Bordeaux and NOTHING HAS CHANGED!
Its only a small thing but very very annoying.
Now dont get me wrong, I aint slagging the game, its absolutely great, but I am finding more and more bugs, and YES I KNOW, this new patch is possibly out next week, which will hopefully rectify these problems, but im convinced FM2008 will never be bug-free, (which I know is a big ask for a game of its size), I just cannot remember an edition of the series having so many problems.
Lets hope this aint due to the fact SI are focusing all their efforts on FM LIVE and have seen 2008 as an unwelcome distraction, as some are saying.
I'll say it again though, SI, keep up the good work, and.....FIX MY 2008 PLEEEEASE.

not really a bug and something that has been like this for a few versions already... players tend to stick to their favorite club, especially at young age. The times are over where players go abroad to earn money but spend years on the bench instead... they actually want to play

annoying? maybe
a bug? certainly not </BLOCKQUOTE>
it is frustrating when this happens, you'd think if he doesn't wanna sign then he'd state it in the contract talks!!

That's most likely because he has agreed he will sign a pro contract on a certain date.
This means that up until that date, he will not sign a contract for anyone else. At that date, he will sign for the club and get a contract, just like a new signing.
As soon as he does though, i usually go for them and you can still hopefully get them relatively cheaply.
You know I kind of thought that same thing happened to me at Bayern, but with van der Vaart. I had a lot of complicated transfers with installments going on so I didn't think too much of it.
Did your deal with Ajax include monthly installments? I believe at the beginning of each year your kitty will reflect 12 months worth of installments you are owed. So if you are paying 1 mil a month your kitty will be adjusted by minus 12 mil right at the start.
Do you have any other installments due?
In regards to the contract issue yes I see that too all the time with young players, and it drives me nuts. They should just state that they don't want to leave, or that it would take a very large contract for them to leave.
I don't get the point of installments. I thought the whole point would be that you would keep the cash in your transfer budget so you could still sign other players and then you could sell a player at a later date to cover the installments, but it doesn't seem to work like that (unless my club are just being tight). Also I agree with the TC there do seem to be several discrepancies between the scouts view of them wanting to join you and reality.
Installments are simply a way to either reserve some of your kitty for immediate purchases this year, or because you don't have enough money in your bank to pay it all right now.
For instance if you buy a player for 10 mil over 24 months, only 5 mil will be counted towards this years transfer spending (assuming you buy in July) and the remaining 5 mil will be counted towards next years kitty.

Not on my game it doesn't. I spent £10m on a player with £4m up front and the rest over 6 months. My transfer budget then dropped from £17m to £7m, unless that was just because the payments would finish before the end of the season?
When you pay installments in 6 months the full amount will be taken from this years budget (assuming there are 6 months or more left in the year).
You need to extend the payments into next year. The best way is over 24 months but each situation is different based on your financial situation.
You would use 6 months if you didn't so much want to keep some transfer budget available, but more so didn't have th bank funds to pay it all now, but were expecting some cash within the coming 6 months.
