I know there's plenty on the board all ready in regard to overstrong greyed out teams, shots vs goals, big teams playing poor against small teams etc, but I had to share this becuase it has to go down in legend as possibly the worse game for a home fan ever:
I have managed to lose a game to a team who've not had a shot on target before.
But never have I managed to knock thirty shots over two hours at a ten man team who've only managed three shots off target all game to then get demolished at penalties after conceding an own goal.
I know there's all ready a bazillion conspiracy theory folks out there but I can't figure out some of my results.
As you can see I have no trouble scoring until I play a poor team. And greyed out teams always beat me. Cliftonville I beat 4-0 at home, then two days later with a jigged side I lose 1-0 away. Then in the most bizarre match I've ever seen my side were destroyed by non-league Killarney 5-0 a week after we beat title challengers Bohs 4-2 and three days before we beat rivals Shels 2-0.
Of course we then completely domminated the game against bottom of the table Waterford but despite dosens of chances couldn't convert one, while their one shot won the game.
I have lost a lot of games to the teams at the bottom of the table, too.
I think it happens b/c I either attack them too much, or not enough regarding my team's mentality.
Try messing with it a little. If your tendency is to play neutral mentality on the road, but you are coming up against a bottom table team where you are heavy favorites, slide it to the right and see what happens.
This is quite realistic to be honest. Lots of teams have "bogey teams" and shocks happen in the cup. Remember when Exeter held Man United to a draw in the cup? Astonishing 4 leagues difference and Man United being one of the big four made this a real shock. You need to know how to play against these sides. Shocks happen, the other side have the mental advantage - they have nothing to lose. They're difficult games to play ESPECIALLY away on a very poor quality pitch and it's all about how you approach them in my opinion.
I know shocks happen in the cup, but I found it beyond shocking I'd lose 5-0 away to an amature team with a ground the size of my highschool playing field.
It happened exactly as sasa said as well, they had five long range shots and corners on target and won 5-0. It was jaw dropping.
I tend to play 3-3-1-3-1 counter attackign football away, which as you can see got me a 5-2 win over Cobh in the cup and a 4-2 win over Bohsa couple of weeks before the cup result against the ten men.
If you check other threads you'll see I help people with tactics, I've released 'super tactics' in the past. It's not like I have trouble winning away or home, it's just the freakish results and the way that they've become commonplace which grinds.
