In my experience they are silent when you arte right. But the trouble is how you judge whether it was a penalty or not - if you speak ourt and are wrong it's always bad. Best just to play the Wenger "I saw nothing" card.

I've never avoided a fine or ban for commenting on a penalty, but I have seen them stay silent on a few offsides.
I actually managed to get a sending off rescinded on FM 2008, that's the first time that has happened to me since the game changed to FM. The reaction of my players in the Match Engine gave me the confidence to appeal for once.
i used to blast the ref all the time, and i always got fined and in the end resulted in a touchline ban. so i decided to keep my mouth shut for a while. just lost my 37 match unbeaten run to a injury time berbatov header, so i was upset and decided to comment on the ref. The commentary also helped me, because it used the phrase "it certainly looked like a penalty".
it doesn't really pay off even if you're right, but you get fined and banned if you're wrong, so there is no point in actually doing it.
We all know that players and staff "remember" comments we make right? Comments we make regarding players and staff can make them add us as "favoured" or "disliked" personnel...
But do the referees "remember" ??
Makes you think does'nt it. Would be nice if SI gave us a tip regarding if the refs remember or not and if eventually refs would regard *us* as a disliked member of staff.
It is worth saying something occasionally. Some players react well when their manager stands up for them. Get some reaction like 'believes manager right to speak his mind'. Only dont do it too often or the fines come in
