Ok so I downloaded the demo and tried it out for a bit. Baseball is not really my game, however the game seemed understandable.
But the main thing that took my attention was the ability to create Fictional Leagues.
I would just love it if something like this where possible in Football Manager.
Not only would it be easy to create fantasy leagues, but you could also add a whole new league if you felt for it, or more divisions to existing leagues.
For instance, Third Division in Norway is probably never going to be included in any football game what-so-ever, but with a feature like this I could actually add it myself.
Offcourse some changes has to be made. You should have the ability to state how many (if any) teams get relegated/promoted etc, to what league they will get promoted.
This would take FM to a whole new level in my opinion. There should also be the possiblity to share leagues, so that anyone can download leagues made by others. And perhaps even other changes, to rules and lots of other stuff. Ideally everything should be possible to alter, every little rule...
This would probably create a whole new scene with lots of interesting mods to download.
a) people have been "crying" for a competition editor for as long as I can remember.
b) why would SI release a game which allows the user to edit absolutely everything, so that they can simply download an update which includes rule changes etc. instead of purchasing the new game...
c) its a lot harder to code in than you might imagine.
a) Well that means there some demand for it. It would be a popular move by SI then.
b) Well you could limit it somehow perhaps. And most of all, I don't buy a new game every year because of the updates leages, players etc. But because of new features - If it was just a new game with only updated leagues, division, players - i would rather continue play my long-term game for another year. So I believe people would continiue to buy the game because of new features.
c) How hard it is to code I have no idea. However if it's doable in OOTP I guess it's also possible to do in FM.
I'd also add, a game with no possibilites for editing looses interest after a while IMO. In FM sake, I coulden't even play a game if there where no editor included - why? Because I'm a bit picky about details, and wrong colors on a team can really ruin my game...
The more possibilites there is in a game, the longer it will last.
For instance I still play CivIII, however not the vanilla game, only downloaded mods.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that in OOTP, there is not only no promotion/relegation, but no competition between leagues like there is in FM. I think that is what makes it so much harder to do code in FM -- the leagues all flowing together.
