I'm playing as Man United in my second season. I won the Premiership the previous year, and have modified my tactics from a 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1, to allow a more fluid style of play, similar to how United play irl.
At home, the tactic works fine, the team scores lots of goals and wins most games, but away from home, it is the opposite. we cannot seem to score goals, managing 4 in the last 7 games.
I play:
Foster
Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra
Hargreaves, Carrick
<Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney> (all switching positions)
Saha
mentality: each player has their own
DR/L: 14 at home 7 away (forward runs often)
DC: 4
MC: one at 7 and forward runs mixed, one at 14 with forward runs often
AM L/R/C: mentality 18, forward runs often
CF: mentality 10, forward runs mixed
can anyone see any reason why my team cannot score goals away from home? Any response greatly appreciated.
How is the possession during the match? do you dominate and have many shots, or are you pinned down, struggling to complete passes and get opportunities?

we keep possession well until we get into the opponents half, then it gets broken up very easily. we create a couple of chances, but find that because we give the ball away alot, we get pushed back into our own half

Could you give me the stats from a recent game?
I'm on a different pc at the moment. moving house means that I have no internet on the pc I use for FM, and can only sit and type this on my girlfriends laptop.
Is it possible that the mentality is too high away from home, or that theres a problem with the tempo? it seems that the players can't pass to each other once they get out of their own half. the brilliant pass and move football we play at home is a mess away from home
I think that could be part of the problem, so you could try pulling back a little. Do you set a high tempo normally? because if you use a playmaker, then setting the tempo yourself keeps him out of the game (which is very noticeable in away games).
One of the reasons why you're giving away so much possession is probably because of several things:
1. Your fullbacks are Mentality 7 while one mc is on 7 another on 14. The gaps are very large. You should make them more compact..so that passes do not go astray. Increase the fullback or reduce the wingers to around 10. Make sure one striker is around 12 as well.
Away from home your defensive posture at the back and if you play with a low DLine then you will increase the change of losing possession.
2. Try playing a normal dline.
3. you can afford to set high closing downs for the strikers.
4. Play with a low tempo-medium. Your setup has too many big gaps...at home you have a highly offensive tactic, you need to watch out for your flanks.
i think you should increase the CF/ST mentality so it's always more than the AMR/L/C(i.e AMR/L/C-16, CF/ST-18)switch his foward runs to often, this way he'll always be looking to make runs behind the defence, at the same time being the point of attack. With such low mentality he'll tend to drop deep more often and your AMR/L/C would struggle to create as much cause he ain't making as many runs.
if you are playing with two strikes having one on low mentality is ideal as he'll drop back and link up play but when it's one striker ahead, high mentality is essential(IMO) he should be looking to get behind the defence, your AMR/L/C should be looking to play him in, if he drops deep your attack becomes less effective.
