I'm playing my first season in the Scottish Second Div., so my team's really useless, but I've come up against a couple of 3-5-2 formations and I'm trying to get my fullbacks (standard 4-4-2) to use the space behind the other team's wing backs.
Right now, my fullbacks tend to lump the ball toward my alleged strikers, McUseless and his partner, McHopeless, so they can turn it over to the other team's centre backs.
But I have a decent AMR with relatively good pace and crossing, and there's acres of room down the flank (again, Scottish 2nd. Div., so some SLOW defenders out there ... more like pylons, really).
I'm trying to get my DR and MC to drop balls behind the opposing left wing back for my wide man to run onto.
When I set the team passing preferences to "down the flanks," I get a lot of useless long balls knocked into touch (again, Scots 2nd. Div, so no particular passing skill).
Can anybody suggest a combination of instructions for my wide midfielders and backs to encourage running onto balls in those lovely, wide-open spaces? Even McUseless and McHopeless should be able to knock an occasional header in, given good service ...
PS. Sorry to all 165 season-ticket-buying Stranraer fans for dumping on the team like that ...
I always play with a deep defensive line.. And i a play with a AMR/L they are Attacking all the way to the right.. many of my players with short passing but my best MC with direct almost long passing to exploit the room..
