Just a started a game with Basingstoke and I have no fierce rivals and only one "other rival". Does anybody know if you can build up rivalries during the game?

Definately a LLM question. All the bigger teams already have their rivalries established... Basingstoke are very poor we cant afford any rivals yet. :cool:

I think you can start personal rivalries with other managers through media comments.

No idea how to get a rivalry with another team I always thought these were based on geographic proximity.

Doug's right (what?)...GQ question. They know those things flat out whereas we only speculate and have to play 20 years to figure it out.

I gather the reason comes down to researching. All the big teams have established rivalries that are known and entered into the db by the researchers no doubt. I gather there aren't too many LL researchers (could be wrong) who input all that info.

I'm disturbed by a few of SI's descriptions in this version of FM, tbh.

First we have "feeder" clubs, which don't exist in the YooKay, then we have "rival" clubs.

I'm at East Stirlingshire for my first effort, and we have four "rivals", Alloa, Stirling, Stenhousemuir and Falkirk.

Sure, they're in close proximity to Firs Park, but it's several generations since The Shire "rivalled" anyone

Trouble is only in semantics, as far as I'm concerned, with "feeder" relationships being the worst - as financial and friendly agreements seems to be the most practical use of the feature.

As far as rivalry goes - I'm not familiar with the Scottish lower leagues, but I guess local deribies are matches of special importance over there, as it is in the rest of the footballing world. An example from my home town: When Fyllingen joined Brann in the Norwegian prem a decade or two ago, rivalry and fierce derbies occured. Now, when Fyllingen is mid-table in div 2, nobody cares - I guess most Fyllingen fans support Brann in their efforts. If they were in the same league again though, rivals would be quite the appropriate term.
